Red vs. Blue vs. Gold vs. Silver etc.

Alright, this debate was brought up in the "10 favorite games thread." But instead of high jacking the thread, I thought I'd do the responsible thing and start my own.

Really, the Red Version vs. Blue version debate is rather pointless as it encouraged trading. Yeah, Red was the better verison, but this is all based on opinion.

However, every version there after was sh*t. Yellow/Green (was there are green?) was a joke and they totally f*cked up the franchise with Silver/Gold. I own the Silver version. And I was offended by the introducing all these new pokemon. None of them are rememberable and they lacked personality.

Gold was the best not just for the amount of pokemon, but for gameplay and longevity. You could spend twice as long in gold as you did in Red and still have things to do, it was just far superior.

Red was great to start the series, but gold improved in every way.

Completly right on the money. Red and Blue were far superior because every pokemon was clearly designed with thought. Everything after was "Ill make an oval with a tail and name it wobbafett/whooper/other gay things".

Re: Red vs. Blue vs. Gold vs. Silver etc.

The Silver/Gold editions were the shining points in the series. Two main quests added twice as much replayability. More Pokemon that, for a lot of them, didn't totally detract from the "feel" of the old Pokemon. Last but not least, it just kicked more ass.

Ruby/Sapph were dissapointments because Gold/Silver had 16 gyms and I think 20 towns, while Ruby/Sapph had 8 gyms and 15 towns. Seriously, now, I expected at LEAST 25 towns to explore and do **** in. Plus Ruby/Sapph left out some awesome Pokemon--but wait, they were there, just not catchable in the actual game! What a waste of space on the game cartridge. At least the game had a bit more replayability and stuff to do after you beat all of the gyms than Gold/Silver (well, when you exclude the fact that there were two main quests in Gold/Silver and count them as one quest). Plus the new Pokemon weren't all that great and they didn't have the feel that the original ones had, although there were a few exceptions.

You also forgot Emerald and Firered/Leafgreen on the poll, but I didn't play those so I can't comment on them anyway.

I really liked Gold and Silver, but then it took a downhill turn.

LeafGreen and FireRed were terrible. More stuff that you had to hack or go to Pokemon HQ in NYC to get into your game. No missingno. Terrible.

Of course, there wasn't a missingno in Gold or Silver, but there were 16 badges and two continents. That was awesome.

          ~Squeek

ps jewpy - Green was Japanese-only. It was the same as Red and Blue but with a blend of exclusive pokemon. It wasn't very good. LeafGreen is basically the upgraded version of Blue, not Green.

Going with Red/Blue. I liked pokemon when it was just the 150. Sorta went off it when they made more.

I really think it all depends on how old you were when the Pokemon crazy was going on. I was 12 when Red and Blue came out, and even then my friends and I were considered borderline "too old." That fad lasted about a year and then died out. Two years later I picked up a used copy of Silver and by that I didnt have the patience to learn all the new pokemon names and whatnot. But seriously, why wont they let it die?

Man it was all about yellow. Red was my first game ever for game boy pocket.
But, my Game boy and red got stolen during a waiting period in an airport in
Vegas, I hate red for that. So I'll say yellow which was the first game I ever
                    bought with my own money.

Gold and silver will be the best. If you think otherwise, you can die like the rest. There is no pokemon game out there except these two that can let you travel between 2 regions, and can use a cell phone. Hey look, I am playing FFR on Ash's cell phone.

                        what

Anyway, my personal Pokemon collection was Red, Blue (which I played to become a Pokemon master in Red, i.e. giant waste of time), Silver, and Emerald which I bought when I had too much money and not enough to relieve boredom back when it came out.

Red was good fun, it just didn't have too much life. I had a team of 100s and more Rare Candies then an elementry school could go through in a year. Sure, I played my friends a lot, but there was only so much you could do before you just got tired of the whole thing. Also, my Red was so bugged it wasn't funny.

Silver was awesome. Colour! Features! More Pokemon (albiet not as good)! It was generally a lot more fun and I got into three-digit hours on it. Unfortunately, I outgrew the craze before I could get the full game out of it (cuz i wuz 2 kewl 4 pokemonz).

Emerald was garbage. It was painfully obvious all they wanted was to siphon money, and I could invent better Pokemon in an opium daze. The selection was pitiful, too. Didn't keep my interest long enough to get to the legendaries. Pitiful excuse for a game, and that's not me playing it and realizing that Pokemon in general sucks, because a couple months before getting it I had restarted Silver and thought it was as good as ever.

                        Overall, Silver/Gold owned all.

They should do wat the did to R/B and remake them into GBA format...

The problem with everything past G/S/C is that their English names are horrible. The originals had good names, and the third generation have horrible names and are impossible to like or remember.

First generation is a classic and always holds a special position, although the people who liked G/S/C have a valid point, and they are very engaging games with a great selection. Silver was probably the height of my Gameboy experience, period.

In Japan, Red, Blue, and Green debuted simultaneously. Green was never released to the US. (I don't think it was much different, if at all.)
