    PlanetSide: Free MMOFPS!

Yes, it's true. PlanetSide, the first real MMOFPS, is giving away free promotional subscriptions that are good for one year.

The limitations on these trial accounts are:

    - Max battle rank of 6
    - Max command rank of 2
    - No access to expansion items

Even with the light restrictions, PlanetSide can still be an extremely fun game to play. I have played it for about 3 years, after joining shortly after release.

The game has changed over time, some for the worse, and some for the better.

Are you ready to get started? If so, let me tell you this: It's a tough game. It's very hard to learn, and relies significantly on your computer's hardware. If you decide to try it, don't give up; keep trying, and ask anyone for help. They'll be glad to assist.

Here's the link. From here, download the client, and follow the instructions. Basically, you'll make an account for the game, and, using that account, you will log in to the game and begin patching.

PlanetSide 2 is a Massively Multiplayer first person shooter that delivers truly epic, massive combat on a scale never before seen in stunning, breathtaking detail.

Still not convinced? Watch the following video with in-game footage: http://www.gaminguploads.com/forums/...id=223&catid=1

Even after that, you still don't want to play it? Here are some in-game screenshots that I have taken:

I was gonna go download this, but I just got back into D2, maybe when I die again, because I play hardcore.

Looks good, I'll check it out. I think I tried it before, not sure if I liked it or not. However, it looks like a great game.

I played waaaaay back when it was prerelease. The server lag issues were too much to handle for snipers, so I was left with a bad taste overall. I'm sure it's gotten better, but it's no longer for me

Note: It took 3 hours for the game to be ready, but I am now currently IN YOUR BASE, KILLING YOUR MANS.

Well, it was prettylate and hardly many people were on, but I went in bases, I killed some mans, but most of the time was spent going up to things with exclamation points on them, and doing the VR Training (so worth it). But in the end, we totally got our butts kicked and lost an entire planet. At first we were fine, but they took over every small outpost, and every time you tried to take them back, they'd take the one you re-captured and kill you while you're capturing the other one. Whenever we were on foot outside, they had a pilot mowing us down with chaingun fire. Whever our convoy of armored vehicles were, they were attacking somewhere else. Whenver they hacked a command center and we tried to take it back or defend it, they out-gunned us and had traps waiting and came up from behind.

Plain and simple, they Sun Tzu-ed our asses.

Planetside was really, really fun in beta. When there were THOUSANDS of people all playing and always something to do. Too bad the game died out really, really, really fast. Too slow paced and the combat system just is not fun, and is incredibly unbalanced.

I was wondering when it would go free, but it was later than I thought.

Omega: You actually got further than most people who have tried it. Did the training system help you out any? Usually people can get into the game, but they have no idea of how to play or get to a fight, much less use their equipment and weapons.

If you ever need advice about how to play, just ask here. I'm very experienced.

Test: They've actually fixed a lot of the issues with the game. There are still balance issues, but, for the most part, the empires are pretty much equal. The NC could use a nerf or two, and the TR could use a buff or two, but it's not so bad that everyone crowds to one team.

Edit: I think the gameplay is meant to be slow. Planetside is, after all, a tactical shooter. You're not really supposed to just charge in and shoot everything that moves.

Any clue on the comp specs needed to play?

I may get into this, tactical shooters>>>>>frenzy shooters.

The VR Training familiarized me with what does what, but really I just did it for the experience.

The only thing I haven't quite figure out yet is how main bases are captured. Lemmie see if I understand: One way, you hack the main console thingy and hold it for 15 minutes, and the other way you grab the LLU and get it to a friendly base. Is that right?

The most frustrating thing is deciding if I want Hacking Skill or Engineering Skill. If I have Engineering skill, I can be a lot of help to MAX units. But then if I find myself alone, WHOOPS! I can't hack the locked door!

                            That's easy. Go with engineering.

To open doors, you only need a REK; no skill is required.

And, yes. You are correct about the ways bases are captured. You can tell which base is captured how by looking next to the base's name on the continent map.
