Yes, I can do it. No, I don't do it. It's a waste of effort and it hurts. It's also totally not the way to play at all.

Maybe it's just me still being pissed at the people who organize SSBM tournaments for being so biased against a lot of the aspects of SSBM that make it fun. Example, remove all items.

Items can be fun but I don't think they should be in tournaments. Yeah you can say their a part of the game but people would really hate it if they got cheaped out of money because some guy got lucky and pulled a Snorlax on you.

or worse, just as you're about to land a final blow, a Bob-Omb appears right in front of you as you attack and it blasts you off the stage. It's happened to me on more than one occassion.

Tournaments are done to measure raw skill (who's better) in the game. Wavedashing opens up many possibilities and mastering them takes an incredible amount of skill. People who wavedash can beat people who don't more often than the other way around, hence, they're better. It IS the way to play, because it was intended to be used in the game. Or rather, I should say, it's one of the ways to play, namely, it's the way to play for people who are good at SSBM. You can play with pokeballs on all high, giant melee or other things like that, where wavedashing wouldn't be very useful, but all other things standard, and it should be used to be better than your opponent and thus win. It's like a blocking versus ticketfiending strategy in Ticket to Ride.

As for items, they add too much randomness to the game. When you add randomness, the distinction between who is better at the game is blurred, hence their bannings from tournaments. Why don't you give kickboxers guns and swords, randomly loaded and sometimes made of candy? It would show who's the better fighter with their hands, feet, swords, and guns, but you can see why that wouldn't be done. Some crappy fighter could always get the loaded gun and, sure, all the other fighters could learn to dodge bullets, but the competition has been shat upon.

EDIT: ducky's story is just one of the reasons I play with items off.

And yes, thankfully, wavedashing WILL be in SSBB.

Once I get the N-Rev, once it comes out, this game will more than likely be the first game I get. But, since it's gonna be like $400, I'll have to wait until the price drops down to like $100, like I did with the gamecube. Blame society and the need for video games.

I suspect it to be a pretty hectic christmas this year.

Supposively wavedashing was found by beta testers in Melee but was kept in the game anyway.

And yes the Wii will cost <$250. Anyone who says $400 probably doesn't even care about owning a Wii in the first place no matter what the price because it's pretty damn obvious Nintendo isn't going over $250 ever with any console. Anyone who has been with the times should know that.

                  What is wavedashing?

Is it the air dodge? Isn't that an intentional feature of the game?

By the way, I can't stand going to use the shoulder button to use my standard attack like I do in the N64 game and instead air dodging. Not like a I play a lot of Melee anyway... I don't even own a Gamecube.

                    Re: !

Wavedashing is using the aerial dodge downward toward the ground shortly after hopping and canceling the fall time to do it again and again. It's killer on your fingers and, while purposely part of the game in one aspect, still absolutely retarded.

I understand guido and I didn't even bother to read your essay about it because I've heard it all before and nothing will make me less angry about it. It shouldn't be there. If you're in a fight, are you going to run toward and enemy or jump then fly back down then jump then fly back down.

Bad analogy, I know. You try making one up.

Where in the hell do you get this idea?

If you're fighting someone, are you going to stand in the same place and trade punches? No, you're going to dodge and be agile. You don't want your opponent to read you, so you fake and feint to gain an advantage on him, setting yourself up for a good blow rather than just swinging wildly.

Just look at the differences between a schoolyard fight and a boxing match. It's crazy how much strategy there is in fighting, with a LOT of it being mind games, which wavedashing accomplishes extremely well.

I certainly hope you're under the misconception that wavedashing is just a form of travel. I'm not that great, and I still can't even wavedash better than about 60% on command, but every once in a while I'll get one off and be at an enormous advantage because of it. It's a great feeling to charge straight at an opponent, have them rear back to hit me, then wavedash backward right in front of him so that his attack misses and I have all the time in the world to punish him.

                        Ok, that's dodging. Not wavedashing.

There's a huge difference. I use dodges all the time. Those are there for a reason.

Exploiting a glitch where you can travel twice or thrice as fast as normally in order to win a competition? That's fair?

                          Re: !

It's wavedashing to avoid, which is something that could not be done otherwise. Dodging is simply holding block and pressing to the side or down, and usually leaves you at a disadvantage.

Also, wavedashing was purposefully put into the game by the creators. It was called some other name like "tactical landing" or something like that, but it is by NO means a glitch. It's in fact different for each character, so how is it not fair?

If it was a glitch, it would've been taken out of the newer versions of SSBM like the rest of the glitches did. And for that matter, arguing with examples to real life situations compared to a game where you can ****ING DOUBLE JUMP... rofl.

                            He did.

Either way, I'm a happy wavedasher. It's in the game, I use it, and it helps me tremendously. If you don't like it that much... find tournaments where they ban it like they do with items. O_o

On the subject of items... random.
