I played DMC when it came out, it was tough as nails. They made it easier in DMCSE though. Better continue system and all. In the original japanese DMC their hard mode was our normal mode and their continue orbs actually let them continue from wherever spot they died, unlike in ours where they just start the area over.

Yes, all of the difficulties except DMD/VMD were shifted down by one in the SE. Dante Must Die! is still the same, like I said, though, and there's a new Very Hard mode that acts as the Japanese version's Hard. You can also choose from either Gold (Japanese continues) or Yellow (American continues) orbs.

Should I play the first to games before I play DMC3:SE?

And DMC 2 sucks, and thats not just my opinion.

There is nothing you should play before DMC3:SE

              Just get it.

Play through as Dante first though. Otherwise the story will not make any sense. And by not make any sense I mean be entirely non-existent.

You have to play as Dante first if you don't have DMC3 memory data. That's what unlocks Vergil and the Bloody Palace, besides beating the game.

Also: I have maxed out the clock for Dante. All modes beaten. DMD! beaten thrice. Trying to get all S ranks on DMD!. Then onto Vergil.

                  damn it

I wish I hadn't spent $60 on Tales of Legendia (I had to get it shipped)

But then again, Tales of Legendia has been really fun, too. :O
