    Trying to cheat Sony

So I modded my ps2 a while back, and now it has nearly stopped functioning entirely. I'm going to try to get a new one from sony. I have a freind who is willing to let me use his top and cd drive cover (flip top mod 4 lyfe). Have any of you ever sent in your ps2 for repairs? And if so, what kind of questions did they ask you before you sent it in?

    Re: Trying to cheat Sony

My friend wanted to sell his PS2 at Gamestop or whereever because it could only play the games with the silver back, not the blue. So when they asked them if it plays games still, he just put one of the silver-backed CD's in XD

But repairs? I don't know about that. They'll probably ask you if you tampered with the machine in any way, I mean, I would. I wouldn't want to repair/replace someone's machine for free because that asshat was tampering with it.

I would suggest getting a sledgehammer and demolishing it, and say "it got into an accident", that way they won't be able to analyze your mods--it'll all be blown to bits!

That's what I suggest the world does to all Sony products.

What method did you use to mod your ps2?

It was a flip-top mod. That's why I figure replacing an original top, and placing the sticker in the correct place should work fine.

What's the problem? If it's just DREs, eject the disc tray and find the little white disc near the back of the laser area. Turn it and the laser area will raise/lower. Test your games out on different heigths with this until they work.

When you do what Moogy suggested (And it does work... for about 3 months), don't be an idiot like my friend and remove the cover with great velocity.

The data ribbons for the power button are connected to the top. If you pull too hard, you rip out the ribbon and lose the ability to power the device.

Well the problem is this: The laser continually comes out of the chassis far enough to disrupt disk movement. It hits the disk, and the disk starts flopping around inside the ps2, and generally not reading.
