Coolest thing that could ever be in MMO form:
Fully controllable medieval warfare. If you've ever played Ronin, a flash game, then you'll know what I mean when I saw mouse-controlled swordplay. Of course, it'd be better than Ronin, since that's just a flash game. But imagine sword fighting and having huge battles with 100s of people. Sure, you could be an archer, but shooting arrows would be made ridiculously diffficult, affected by wind and gravity and all that, so a lot of people would pick hand-to-hand combat. It's totally not practical, I'd just like crazy large-number battles with medieval people.
And Chardish has a point. The main thing, though, is that you can't just add more people to an FPS game and expect a good MMOFPS game. You have to expand it, take it in a new direction. The MMO I plan to make one of these days will involve much diplomacy. You can form alliances and teams and choose who you want to fight. You could be completely alone and just kill whoever you feel like it, or you could start a team and decide to battle any other particular team that's nearby. People could opt to join your team or make their own, or play it solo, or act as a mercenary and get hired out to whichever team pays the best. Basically, the players will have full control over everything. They will make the game, I'll just provide a means to do so.
