    Presenting the Nintendo Revolution.

Holy Crap. I can see it now..

..Metroids floating in your bedroom, or maybe.. Pikmin gathering pencils from your desk. The PS3 and the Xenon are nothing compared to this.

P.S. The person who posted this on another forum said this

"I offer no guarantees on this, other than that my contacts told me this came from a reliable source, both of which are employed by leading software devs. Additionally, I can guarantee you haven't seen this applied to games, hence why the inside-industry buzz is "could this be the revolution?"

And that was fucking awesome. I want it, and I want it NOW... not really, but it's still awesome.

RE: Re: Presenting the Nintendo Revolution.

Ok you know what. I have never been able to get wmv files to play, so someone want to tell me what goes on in this video and if possible tell me why my Winamp absolutly refuses to play wmv files.

EDIT: nm... it worked somehow.... Holy crap.

          INSANE.

This cannot be real. As much as I want it to be, there's just no way this could be the new Nintendo "console".

EITHER WAY, this is HARDCORE. Making a hologram react to real-world objects had to be excruciatingly tedious work.

If this is the real new Nintendo console, I'll pay anything for it.

It looks fake to me. Unless I'm not properly understanding what's showing, that's impossible for them to do. You can't make a 3d figure appear in space like that.

Just to clear something up from what I've seen.

Nothing is changed in reality. The car is just a simulation that only appears on the screen the camera is filming. It does not affect real-world entities. However, the reverse IS true; real-world entities affect the hologram.

Incredible. Like I said, even if it's not the console, it's an amazing device.

              ~Squeek

Edit - Holy crap, the car's metal reflects its surroundings...and the glass is definitely see-through.

alright well...i got my friend to get his friend that speaks french to somewhat translate this. they were basically talking about how the car was interacting with the real world objects, AND that it's used for scenarios in the videogame or something....

unless some TOTALLY RANDOM COMPANY all of a sudden made this REVOLUTIONARY way to play video games that is NOT nintendo, i would have to say this just might be the revolution. or i could be totally wrong, but im hoping im not.

Alas, none of this is related to Nintendo, but the technology could possibly be used for the Revolution.

I would like to bring up some points brought up by the users of the TouchDS.com Forums, where this was originally posted. Before that, here is an English demostration of the technology:

"I found the page where this comes from...

I don't see any proof that this will be the Nintendo Revolution. This is developed by Total Immersion S.A., who doesn't show any partnership with Nintendo. The only partnership that could be a hint is IBM, which Nintendo also has partnership with. It's possible they're hiding the fact to avoid leaked info. Nintendo did say it's a technology never been used in a gaming system, and this definitely fits that catagory. Basically what I'm saying, don't get too excited, this is still just a rumor since we don't have solid evidence that this is related to the Revolution. Nintendo will reveal it officially at E3 2005 and it will be released before PS3 in 2006.
                    "

In response to that post, someone wrote.

"Just for the record, Ninty have stated that the Revolution is going to use old technology applied to a new medium, games. Augmented Reality has been around since the mid 90's, and as of yet, has not been applied to games.

For those of you confused about Nintendo and it's alliances with small technology firms like Total Immersion, for example, I think you should hark back to the days of the N64 and Nintendo's interest in a company known as Silicon Graphics. This was also a high tech firm who's technology had yet to be applied to games, but had long been an industry standard for 3D modeling and rendering.
                    "

Here is the thread that all of this comes from:

But if the company is with IBM, then it could have an affect with PS3 and IBM's deal. I'm not saying that the PS3 would have this technology, but if someone was able to make a console from this I would buy it. Imagine having a holographic Dating Sim game. Oh the possibilities.....

Heres my problem: Windows Media Player simply will NOT work, no matter how many times I install it. To counter this, I installed QuickTime. The problem with QuickTime, is that it only plays .mpeg files. I think...

wow...that's incredible. i actually don't think it's all that technologically incomprehendable though, pretty much an eye toy type thing, but coolified to the 100th power. the camera can detect where real world objects are, the virtual 'car' can react. i'm still a bit curious how you could apply this to a real video game. I mean that's cool as hell, but do you really want a tiny Link running around your room as a whole video game? although that's where that hand device could come in. that's amazing. but would there be any possible way to incorporate online play to the 'hologram' technology? price i'd be willing to pay, if it ends out turning out as cool as this demo made it seem: $1,000

Quicktime plays .mov files. Get DivX, it'll play Windows Media files.

The video was pretty cool...though there seems to be an atmosphere of "hoax" around it. Also, sure, it's cool, but the novelty will wear off in a few weeks/days.

so i was thinking about this as i feel asleep last night, and i decided this could be the end of CG environments. Nintendo could create real world situations, use cameras to put the data in a computer, and then put that online (or on a game to be played online). we could have photo realistic environments, with CG characters, and this could all be happening online....only one major problem, anything that you could interact with would still have to be CG, as far as i can imagine.
