What got you into gaming?

Specifically, what game got you into gaming? and why?

For it, it was Playstation 2's Ico. Though I owned previous consoles, and played many other games, before, Ico was the first game that I really felt any sort of "connection" to. In fact, it was after playing Ico that I decided I wanted to get a job in the video game and/or animation business. Everything about the game was awesome. The graphics, the game play, the puzzles, everything was well thought out and executed. Even though there was very little dialogue, at the end of the game, I felt there was a connection between Ico and Yorda.

Since then I have played countless games, but none of them has ever compared to Ico. And many of the other games that I enjoy playing are similar to Ico (ex. Prince of Persia, and Rygar ).

I would say a lot of my loyalty to Playstation stems from the fact that it was the only console that carried Ico. Had it been Mario or Zelda that got me into gaming, perhaps I would feel different.

the first video game i ever played was super mario world, the very first day that my brother got a SNES. i havent stopped gaming since.

I used to have an Atari .. We would play it all the time, and I really don't remember the name of the games for it either, but that is what got me into playing video games..

And neutopia for Turbo Graphix 16, and the OG zelda blew me away.

Warcraft 2 got me into online gaming, and Half-life multiplayer turned me on to first person shooters. We used to play Half-life on a lan in Academic Decathlon back when I was in high school, before that i used to just play Warcraft and starcraft, Myth, and uh.. Red Alert when I was desperate.

With consoles, it had to be chronotrigger that hooked me on rpgs. I played that before FFVI.. And Legend of Dragoon cemented it.

I have to admit though.. I REALLY love super mario 2, super mario3, super mario world and Yoshi's Island. I think those games are off the hook, and if I have the opportunity I'll play them for hours. If I had to make a top 5 list for consoles, those would round up the top four. They are just too cool.

That and Donkey Kong Country, and Metroid... And Super Metroid..

My favorite fighting game is a toss up between Street Fighter Turbo and King of Fighters.. Used to play Street fighter for hours on end into the night. SNK vs. Capcom is tied for favorite 2d fighter with Guilty gear X2.. So street fighter got me hooked on them, and then Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur just owned me..


I remember playing bionic commando when I was real little at my cousin's house on christmas Eve. That and excitebike.

Bust a move 2 I used to play at an arcade constantly, and dr. mario for gameboy got me into puzzle games..I've moved on to Super Puzzle fighter.. Heh...

what was the one game they featured on an episod eof muppet babies? I don't know I think of that, but it was shown on it and i was like "HEY I KNOW THAT GAME!"

You were this yellow ship, and it was like going through some garden and it side scrolled, and you would pick up the power ups and shoot them.

I was about 3 years old and my uncle Andrew and my Dad had just got they're own NES and bought like the first Mario and Mario 2, and apparently my dad hooked the 2 controllers in a one point and told me to play and well really he was playing and I had no clue what was going on and thought I was playing and stuff, from that point on there hasn't been a single game that I have played unbeaten. Every game I've played has been completely finished, and all secrets exposed and everything etc etc..

So yeah, at 3 years old I was beating video games while most of you were still crying or just not into games XD

I remember top gun for nes. I always crashed when i tried to land on the carrier

It would have to have been back in 89, when I would play Duck Hunt on the NES with my orange gun.
Then in 91, I would play SF II and Super Mario World on the SNES for hours. We had a big tv so I would just stare at that for hours. Then in 93, my first taste of blood and FPS was born when my father bought me Doom for the SNES. That same year, I got my fighting fix, when MK 2 came out.

A couple of years later, the N64 come out, and I play Super Mario 64 and Goldeneye like everyone else.But I would have to say that the system that got me most into gaming would have to be the Dreamcast and these games: Power Stone and Power Stone 2, Soul Calibur, and Jet Grind Radio.

But, then came the PS2 and all its glory. Oh that, and the GameBoy Advance. But heres a little tidbit:
I used to play Splatterhouse on the Panther or Turbografx's 16 bit system whatever it was called back then.

The one game that probably changed my previous gaming experiences and shaped the gamer I am today was, sadly, Donkey Kong Country II.

Of course, I had my atari and I would play Breakout! and many Pong-related games all the time. And of course, I would do the same for the NES. But DKCII really had me playing the game for hours on end. It was the first game to do this.

It was probably also the first game I consulted an FAQ to complete (those DK coins are HARD to find!). But, rest assured, I DID 100% complete the game.

I only had 6 games for my SNES and 4 of them sucked. The only other good one was Killer Instinct, which I owned thoroughly.

Then, I finally receive an N64 about 2 years after its release. For that system, I had maybe 10 games. Worth noting was the fact that I 100% completed Banjo Kazooie, Ocarina of Time (though I never bought it...), and Majora's Mask (same as OOT).

Yay for Gamecube! I actually considered my options before buying a cube and the final decision came down to Halo or Super Smash Brothers Melee. I'm so glad I didn't make a stupid decision then. I now own well over 30 amazing titles; of which I have probably 100% completed about half, or more.

My brother acctually got me into gaming so I was a gamer when I was 4and now I'm 16 so that would be what 13 years acctually 14(I'm almost 17 [Feb 18])

It was either Duke Nukem 3d or Quake II...one of 'em got me hooked on first person shooters, been playing them ever since. Starcraft was my next big thing awhile later.

What really got me hooked was either Megaman 2, or when I got Gunstar Heroes for the Genesis. Brilliant game by Treasure, as always.
