    Video Game Hype

This does not just go for Video Games but all forms of media. However, lately, a lot of longly anticipated games have come out, so I chose Video Games.

With such games like GTA:SA, Halo2, Fable, etc coming out within a span of a few months, I noticed that, prior to the release, NO ONE CAN SHUT UP ABOUT IT. But after the release, no one really talks about it. Occasionally I will hear one of two people talk about it. After a week or so, people are talking about the next video game.

I really dont know where I am going with this, so I will throw out some questions:

    1) Has anyone else noticed this?

    1) Does hype ultimately kill some video games?

    2) Why do I have two "1)'s?"

    3) Why is it that I hear no hype about Gran Turismo 4, or am I the only one stoked about that release?

    4) So, Wanda and Colossus...is that going to kick ass our what?

    5) I ran out of ideas a while back and should stop because I am not funny. And the new Bjork album sucked.

    RE: Video Game Hype

    1) Yes. Nobody is backing Halo 2 anymore. Either they're playing it, they know it sucks, or they died.

    1) Yes. Fable was so overhyped and not too many people liked it. It might be voted "Most overrated Game of the Year" on some sites.

    2) OMG I DUN NO

    3) As for me, I don't like "realistic" racing games. Mario Kart and F-Zero work for me.

    4) Who? What?

    5) Hi Jewpin!

      RE: Video Game Hype

      1) Yep, no-one talks about it after it's released cause they can now play it and don't have to constantly talk about it anymore.

      1) That entirely depends on the game and if that's the style of game you like. (I love Warcraft and find WOW amazing, I couldn't care less about Halo2)

      2) Cause you're a jewpin, and that's what jewpinthethird's do.

      3) Some games don't get the hype, there are games I'm excited about too but you won't hear about at all.

      4) Eh?

      5) Gorges.

I find it to be the complete opposite. They talk about it a little before it is released, but then afterwards, they can't stop talking about how great it is. I guess it depends on the game.
And Freak83 is wrong. The right answer is divine_wind.

          RE: Video Game Hype

I'd have to say that the games that are truly the best are talked about most after they came out. no one knew of Ico before it was released but once people played it, everyone had to at least try it and now it's still a regular conversation point among my circle of friends. However, even though we thought halo and halo2 were great games, the hype made it impossible to enjoy and we almost never mention it.

Oh, and Gran Turismo 4 is a game that will be in my PS2 for a long, long, long, long time. Maybe to be occasionally removed for R-type Final because that game is good too.

            Funny.

Wanda and Colossus is the game I am most stoked for (more than Gran Turismo 4). It is by the same team who made ICO (my all time favorite game). Though I am dissapointed it is not a sequel, I hope that it might tie into ICO's world.

Hype is definately a killer. You go in expecting more than you're going to get, and even if the game is a gem.. you'll be dissapointed because you were expecting better.

There are a lot of games I'm anticipating that most people haven't even heard of. Unfortunately it's been a while since I've laid eyes on those games so the names currently escape me. Sequels I'm hoping that come out.. well, the only one I can remember at this moment would be Lunar 3.

That's why instead of just hearing what other people say about the game, I research it first.

Like Disgaea. Had I a PS2 and had listened to Moogy and Kefit (I think it was Kefit...), I'd have a game right now that I wouldn't enjoy too much. Then there's Baten Kaitos which is being hailed as the "Most Beautiful Nintendo Title Ever". It may look good, but NOBODY wants to use a card-based battle system in an RPG.

I am only looking forward to Echoes, Wind Waker 2, HL2, StarFox 2, and Kingdom Hearts 2.

I've already given up on Starfox 2. It's good that there will be more Arwing, but I bet there won't be much less on-foot crap.

I've heard Killzone is the Halo of the PS2.

Omega: SF2 is in the style of ratchet and clank. Lots of guns, lots of shooting. And more arwing. It's not an adventure anymore. It's BLOW EVERYTHING UP.

Oh yea, I'm looking toward Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 as well. My friend pre-ordered the import, so I should be able to play that soon. It will be so very awesome.

Wind Waker 2 doesn't exist. They replaced it with the new more "realistic" graphics one.

Oh BTW, Star Fox: Assault is going to be the true sequel to Star Fox 64. Mostly Arwing with only some ground battles. Also its going to have multiplayer that can be both on ground and in the air.

Wind Waker 2 is a tenative title.

And you are correct on the SF2 game. It's more of a sequel to SF64.
