DS vs. PSP (now we know something about the two)

OK, once again, which would you pick now that we've seen the two at game shows live and working and playable?

my choice? DS, hands down- It'll come out sooner, it's cheaper, much better battery life (13 hrs vs. 2hrs or less), better creativity in their games, better variety in play style... DS will own.

The PSP has a slight graphical edge but it's only running one screen. The PSP already has quality problems- at the Tokyo game show the PSP had a severe flaw in their designs where if they got left on for more than an hour or so a circuit inside began to melt and others would melt a little later as well. This needs to be fixed NOW!

      Nintendo Dual Screen - Nintendo
      Playstation Portable - Sony

And i'm not arguing about this anymore. I decided to just get both.

But... Seriously, you'll like one than the other if you liked Gamecube, GBA, or SNES (hopefully some remakes in this system). And for PSP if you liked PS2 and FINAL FANTASY series.

I can't confirm if there will be any Final Fantasy games for DS.

First of all: 13 hrs? From what I've heard 13 sounds alot more that what it actally runs for. And 2hrs or less? I seriously don't know where you got your informatoion but thats the biggest bs I've heard. The PSP will run somewhere around 10-12 hours due to the Video Games, Music and Video media. The DS will run somewhere around 10.

Plus a stylus? If you want to induce seizures whie using a stylus I suggest you get a Palm Pilot with color. And besides. We all know PSP is going to own because FF: Advent Children will be released on PSP before it is released on DVD and video. 8)

RE: DS vs. PSP (now we know something about the two)

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is going for the DS (though it's not a traditional Final Fantasy RPG) and I enjoy both Nintendo and Sony, it's just that Sony is really treading new water here so the problems on making something so complex are worsened by lack of experience.

But i really want sony to fix the problems with the PSP, it will be a good system it just has some glaring problems that are probably just stupid mistakes. If Sony really does release the PSP as it is now, then the PSP will simply die.
If they fix it, the PSP has a chance to become the next walkman.

Still I dont see how two screens actually makes playing a game better. Unless you need a map for Metroid Prime. Then maybe I can understand.

                  DS all the way.

Anyone who is getting the PSP is an idiot.

IF YOU ARE THE BOMB YOU WILL CLICK THIS and if you dont, you suck.

RE: DS vs. PSP (now we know something about the two)

Chromer- The batt life for the PSP is so short as of now because of the melting circuit, also the DS will have a built in battery of a decent size so that long a life is possible without a backlight. If the circuit problem is fixed then batt life will be around the same as the DS.

And as for Advent Children, it's coming out on DVD, like other DVDs that will never make it to PSP. The PSP uses special discs that require a greater cost to make and develop in as opposed to a dvd. Also, the people who own dvd players already is much larger than the people who will ever own PSPs. It just makes better business sense for most movies to stick with dvds for now

I'm not crazy about the stylus just yet, but I will if they ever make Starcraft DS (yeah, that was some wishful thinking). it's something new that hasn't been done before- give it a chance, and most games have options that don't force you to use it.

No offense but do you think that Sony is going to let a big problem like the circuit actually go unnoticed? No, so I know that Sony is going to fix this before hand and try to improve battery life. And about the UMD discs your talking about. Yes, it is confirmed that owners of the PSP will be able to have access to Advent Children before DVD because we all know SquareEnix is Sony brand so it would only make sense to put out the movie for those loyal to Sony. Like Me. Or, like an idiot i'll go and buy the UMD and the DVD so I can watch it whenever I want. lol

RE: DS vs. PSP (now we know something about the two)

First of all, I'm sick of sides making up data. The PSP does NOT run for 2 hours, it's estimated to run for 12+ with games, 3-4 with movies and music. The DS is estimated to run 10-12 hours.

I'm not all that interested in either, and I'm sure as hell not going to plunk down the greens, so this doesn't really concern me. But I know that from my standpoint, both launch lineups look pretty weak. I'm an action/shooter guy, and I have yet to see anything of either that looks remotely interesting (no, don't tell me about Metroid Prime, I've seen it and it looks unimpressive. Also, first person controlling with a stylus is next to impossible. I know, since I have a palm pilot and have tried it with several first person shooters).

From a pure technology standpoint, the PSP is the clear winner. It really does provide Playstation quality graphics, the hardware behind it is just amazing. I really wouldn't mind if they took out the Mp3 and Movie player and chopped off $100, though. $300 as a launch price is obscene, especially when it's main competitor is launching for half the price (estimated).

                        My two cents.

I've played both, actually, so I should consider myself fortunate about it... But like i said in another thread, they really come down to what you want more froma system.

DS is going to take multiplayer to this wireless portable level, where eventually, they plan to set up wireless access points for you to hook up and play people realtime around the world.. that's reptty fucking cool, and it has access to the entire nintendo library.

With PSP, if you plan to just take it with you somewhere and want to play on an airplane and have good graphics, then I would say the PSP is better for you, because it is built for that purpose only.

I heard both were going to have wireless multiplayer gaming options.

I'm leaning more towards PSP myself, but at this stage.. it's pointless for any of you to argue. I'm just going to do what I do for every handheld system, except gamegear...
