Best Game Ever (Old School Style)

Post what you think the best Old School (as in, non-modern) game is.

This will not become a poll because polls are for ninnies.

ANYWHO!

I will start by saying the the best Old School game was NiGHTS.



This will probably change as I remember more games.

But for now, I stand my NiGHTS. It was a fantastic game, and I mean, fatasmatically beautacious. The game play was tight, everything about it was awesome, and the fact that it's so rare to find these days gives it extra value as a treasured treasure of all treasures.

Descent. I prefer the first over the second and third though, in the 2nd it was just a boss every 4 levels and you could see it coming... the first game was a lot more unexpected, and a little more challenging because you didn't have a guide bot to show you around everywhere.

Nomad. I remember the fatal unfixable bug that killed your character even if you didn't save after it happened. Ahh. The days of frustration. Anyway, that was a damn cool game.

I don't really have a favorite game because I just like too damn many of them. Heres a quick list...

SMB 3 - NES
Galaga - NES
Fire Emblem -GBA
Secret of Mana - SMES
Breath of Fire - SNES
Tales of Phantasia - (Japan only) SNES


That's a good list... I didn't include Pokemon, I enjoyed that game a ton in 3rd and 4th grade -- used to play until i could see blood forming underneath my thumb nail. But nowadays, it's all about shooting stuff.
Maybe they'll release Pokemon Hunter?

Galaga- Arcade

Most likely at an arcade near you, along with Ms. Pac-Man in that stupid double-game machine... I've only seen an original cabnet once at an Aladdian's Castle and it was out of order...

Sonic 2 was a great game. I think Tails is the coolest dude ever (right after Homestarrunner).Mario is awesome too.

FF7 is not an oldschool game... It's also extremely bad.

I've never played Earthbound.. maybe I should someday..

I'm more partial towards adventure games.. like Monkey Island and King's Quest.. So something in that genre.. probably Monkey Island 3 or 1..

Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3. Also, Sonic 2, and the Mortal Kombat for the genesis.


Tekken was good for it's time.

Super Mario Bros. 2 would have to be my favorite.

The first Breath of Fire for SNES was pretty fun . The newer ones kind of suck though.

Any of the mega man games are classics as well.

But, if it's really considered old school, super mario RPG wins. No contest.

I sure as hell hope you're talking about the real Super Mario Bros 2 (aka The Lost levels in Super Mario Allstars) because the American Super Mario Bros. 2 was the worst game of all timeok not really, but you get my point
