I didn't preorder it because from my experience with minecraft I know that I don't enjoy open world sandbox games that much...

      Spore of 2016.

I would even buy it despite having boring gameplay if it ran well and had VR support. Just flying around in VR with nothing to do in particular would be a beautiful experience. Might have to try elite dangerous.

I don't know, if you're willing to excuse the full retard PC launch and the performance issues (many of which I've fixed, honestly it runs pretty good now on a mediocre card that doesn't even meet minimum requirements...)

It's a fun game to play if you like space and you're into exploring.

It's absolutely not a game about action and excitement at every turn. It's absolutely an exploration game.

And if you're into that kind of thing I don't see how people can say they're bored after a few hours. I think this type of game just isn't for them. Last night I found this really cool, Earth-like planet that I spent over 3 hours on alone, finding a lot of cool animals and sea life...I found some ruins underwater and got attacked by sharks, treasures in underwater caves...I honestly had a lot of fun, and my fiancee that doesn't even like this type of stuff had a lot of fun watching me play it.

So honestly, if you're into open world exploration and like the idea of space travel and space exploration, the game itself is pretty fun. While some things about the game could be better, and it certainly leaves itself open to a successor that fixes a lot of these problems (star citizen please), it's the best experience of this kind currently available imo.

I didn't buy the game and have no intentions of doing so, but it's worth perusing just to see how badly a developer can promise features then rip off their customers and still have people defending them lmao

i got to "Yeah, at the moment you can land on asteroids." and my mind suffixed it with "don't worry, we'll remember to patch that out later"

              It really is an embarrassment.

I have a really long list of complaints, and was *this* close to steam refunding the game. I don't think I could give it a positive review.

But since I've played the game I feel like I can comment on this list. I feel like I actually agree with the removal of some of those things.

              A few examples:

Freighters moving: Correct, though I don't see why this would add anything to the game. If anything, when trying to pirate, it would be really annoying, was probably removed for that reason.

Space battle w/ factions: I've already seen a huge space battle. There was one in the last system I was in. There were like 40 ships involved and I got fucked up. It was cool. This complaint is dumb.

NPC ships launching: Was probably patched out because it would be annoying (you often want to approach NPC ships to sell or buy and chasing them around would be realllllyyy annoying)

Desert planets: Definitely desert like planets but no sand. Was probably removed due to performance issues if I had to guess. Game already runs poorly enough. Fuck that.

Flying between star systems: Ok while this might be cool, it was obviously patched for practical reasons. The way the game is designed is such that you need to have fuel to fly faster than fuck all speed, and during testing some guy probably run out between systems and saved and was stuck there. This one would be nothing but complaints.

Sentinel wanted level indoors: this would be horrible. Quite frankly nobody would land on hostile planets, ever, if this was the case. As is there's a ton of incentive to avoid them completely. I would say a better argument is simply that the sentinel system as is blows ass and should have been completely redone.

I'm going to guess what happened:

Lofty ideas, lofty goals, good intentions.

People actually start testing the game and the whole thing is a cluster fuck of shit and none of this works as intended or plays out horribly and is removed. Rather than pull back though and come clean, the $$$ train has NO BRAKES!

I bet everyone and their moms are happy they didn't get this game. I understand some people really like pre-ordering games and getting the bonus stuff or whatever, but let's not forget why pre-ordering existed in the first place. Back in the day, there wasn't any digital content. So when games got shipped out, there was only a finite number available. We would pre order back then just so we could even get a copy on release.
