my answer: it's popular just because it's a game, like many other games in other genres

my response: fps isn't "dominant" in the gaming industry, as a matter of fact many other genres are on-par if not more popular than first person shooters

Also, your picture represents one platform very well. Where are your statistics for the others? It may be only my imagination, but I was pretty sure many FPS fans reside on console platforms.

you will see that shooters only lead in consoles like the 360/ps3

all other consoles completely dwarf shooters by tenfolds
