Given that Xiz needed people to commit to characters in advance, and implied he would be structuring at least theming around the characters, it sounds like you are wanting to opt into a separate wifom for every single player.

Did their pick their favourite, from which we can divine their role?
Did they pick something they thought would get them town/wolf/3p/pr?
Did they pick something unlike what anybody knew about them?

What if 10 people all put in characters that would have made sense to be scum? What if only 3 or 4 people put in characters that would have made sense to be town?

Just feels like a total crapshoot, that maybe we should use for like...tie-breakers but not for picking the goal of the day.

This post makes me realize I might have poorly expressed myself.

Of course we can't go straight with this. Hell someone could have random wikipedia'd their characters and that would fuck up the whole thing. I'm asking if you guys are ok with considering this as a potential tool. There may actually be very little accessible info out of this, or even any possibilities to consider, but that may change mid game.

I personally am fine with including character predictions in my reads if need be, like what I said about Haku a few posts earlier, but a lot of you may be strongly against anyone saying a word about it, because that's not how the game is meant to be played.

This is more an ethical question than a strategic plan.

pretty sure it can go both ways, especially in a setup like this. like, it's a random shot whether it was in the pm or not, given that xiz balanced on the fly, but that's stemming a little to close to slopefiring so i'm not passing judgment based on that

which is why i said, once we see a flip, things will be a lot more clear tbh.

back to antori: you answered the question of "why did you kill mellon" with "because i couldn't pick someone else". so to re-ask, why did you specifically select mellon?

xiz making all the alignments based off of characters is a possibility, but it is HIGHLY unlikely.

Well mine definitely is.
Dragon's is.
Mellon's is.
tambo? Well I'm not too sure lol, but that's not exactly against the idea.

Highly unlikely? that's a bit over 1/6 of the playerbase so far. We'll see as the game progresses though, but I can't dismiss it as "HIGHLY unlikely".

It feels like there's one too many layers of supposition for -me- to be on board.

First you have to correctly predict their choice
THEN you have to correctly predict what Xiz did with their choice.

But it has always been a thing with me and TWG that I get frustrated with how much of the game is gut reads and induction so I'm not going to like...wolf read somebody who tries to role read somebody but I probably won't be that easily convinced by it and even if I wanted to take part in it, I bet I'd know jack squat about probably 18 to 20 of the choices.

In line with what not devonin brought up, some of us could make guesses based on what they know of the user personally. Not only that's blatantly unfair to others, but that's some serious angleshooting and borderline OOTC.

to call dragon's similar to his alignment isn't really true. its "kinda similar" in that its a animal there is a wolf, and i dont buy that. especially not with the character. And your role might be for your character, but that doesn't mean your alignment is. most of the game is usually going to be members of town. i think its just a coincidence.

I might be influenced by how I litterally thought "dragon is gonna pick a dog/wolf anthropomorphic character and is therefore gonna flip wolf" before the game ever started lol.

As long as you're aware of the confirmation bias and don't let it give you undue confidence in other reads, accounting for role guesses in your evaluations is probably fine.

:3 because mellon was the only player that contributed to the game without getting any spotlight, svaz was a close candidate but he wasn't active enough.

I dunno, I was 100% on this before the flip lol. But to be fair, that's also the only user I was like 100% sure of as well. Aside from Haku now which I'm pretty darn sure I know what he picked based on his role. But I don't intend to let that block other observations as far as his alignment is concerned.

I don't really have much for anyone else, but I guess the takeaway is that if I do get such suspicions in the future, I'll keep 'em to myself?

I'm probably dead, like, really fucking soon anyway.
