    Other TWG game Thing idea.

Okay, so, at Camp CAEN (computers computers computers), we played Mafia. In case you are ignorant, that is what IRL TWG is called about 90% of the time. They had a pretty cool way of playing it, too, that I thought would work out terribly, but ended up being extremely fun. I would like your guys' appraisal of this version of the game, as I do not know how well it would work out over the internet, as opposed to in real life. The number of people of each role can be adjusted with ease if it looks like it would not work out very well with the numbers.

In the camp version of Mafia, there were two Mafias, the Clubs and Jacks mafias (because roles were assigned with cards as often they are, as you might know). In addition, there was a Psycho-killer, a Cop, and a Medic. Also, an option that we played one game with was the "bulletproof vest".

Hokay, so. Let me give you a low-down on the roles and everything.

Cop: The cop functions exactly as would a seer in a normal game of TWG. He picks one person each night to be looked at, and the host gives him a Thumbs-up if that person is a mafia member or the psycho-killer, or else he gives a thumbs down (actually, I am only like 80% sure that he can see the psycho-killer, but that's an adjustable rule). His goal is for the blues and greens to win.

Medic: The medic is very much like a normal game's Guardian. He chooses one person every night to protect. If a mafia member chooses the same person to kill (even if both mafias do), that person survives. That person's name is not declared by the host. However, if the psycho-killer decides to kill the same person as the medic chooses to save, that person dies anyways. The goal of the medic is for the blues and greens to win.

Psycho-Killer: The psycho-killer kills one person every night. The person he decides to kill, as stated before, cannot be saved by the medic. This is because the psycho-killer decapitates and dismembers all of his victims. The Psycho killer's goal is to be the sole survivor (sounds tricky, but I saw a 13-year old do it one time at camp. That game was cool).

Italian Mafia: There are usually two members of this Mafia. Each night, they confer and decide who to kill. The goal of the Italian mafia (Or Mafia #1, whatever) is for both of its members to be alive at the end of the game. They are NOT allied with the Russian Mafia or the psycho-killer and want both of them dead.

Russian Mafia: There are usually two members of this Mafia. Each night, they confer and decide who to kill. The goal of the Russian mafia (Or Mafia #2, whatever) is for both of its members to be alive at the end of the game. They are NOT allied with the Italian Mafia or the psycho-killer and want both of them dead.

The Bulletproof Vest: The Bulletproof vest is given randomly to a player in the game (although in IRL games, the Bulletproof vest is ALWAYS a citizen, because you cannot give out two cards to any one person). The person who has this vest cannot be killed by the either (or even both) mafias during the night. They can still be killed by the psycho-killer. They are lynched normally. Their goal is for the blues/greesn to win.

Citizen: The Citizens are default. They are exactly like regular townfolk.

    Winning conditions are as follows:

If only the cop and one mafia member are alive, the cop wins.

If only the cop and the psycho-killer are alive, the cop wins.

If only one mafia member and one citizen are alive, the mafia member wins.

If only the medic and a mafia member are alive, the mafia member wins.

If only the medic and the psycho-killer are alive, thhe psycho-killer wins.

If only the bulletproof vest and a mafia member are alive , the mafia member wins (how many bullets do seriously think you can take?).

If only the bulletproof vest and the psycho-killer are alive, the psycho-killer wins.

If only a mafia member and the psycho-killer are alive, the psycho-killer wins.

If one member of both of the mafias is alive, it's a coin toss.

If any Mafia outnumbers the combined blues and greens, that mafia wins.

    ROUND!

I hope that was reasonably clear. You can ask me questions about it in this thread. Now, I realize that Chardish already has an excellent TWG idea on the drawing board, and I would like for that one to be played first, with this idea considered maybe for the game after that one.

Please notify me of any and all loopholes that are in this game plan.

Oh, I forgot to mention, one game the girl who had the bulletproof vest was attacked by the Aces Mafia, the Spades Mafia, AND the Psycho-killer in one night.

      Ouch.

RE: Other TWG game Thing idea.

Sounds like it would totally suck.

        LET'S TRY IT!

EDIT (for Qreepy lolz): I say this because at first it seems like there would be WAY too much killing. 3 possible kills at night, then a lynching. Like the original post said, it sounds like a retarded thing to do, but if it worked IRL, we should try it.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

It has the potential for tons of people dying. But usually what happens is that targets overlap, the bulletproof vest saves someone, or the medic saves someone, or the psycho-killer or a mafia dies out.

It worked in real life. Very well, I might add.

Also, it could be a large game and still be relatively fast-paced. That's another advantage.

How many people did you play with at Camp?

Yeah ok how many people are in this game? It could only work with at least 20 or so, considering 4 people die each day.

I like the way the roles work, it sounds interesting. The winning conditions look awful though. Plus, there are a bunch of conditions left out.

Let me get this straight. Unless all of the mafia members and Psycho-Killer are killed, the game goes until there are two people left? That would be weird TO THE EXTREME. What happens when a mafia tries to kill the Psycho-Killer and the Psycho-Killer tries to kill one of said mafia members? Both die or what?

What if both of them do?

lol this reminds me of that game on Whose Line where you can only ask questions

edit: 3 deaths a night, Hans. Two mafia killings and the Psycho-Killa.

                edit2: oopc I thought it said 4 a night.

RE: Other TWG game Thing idea.

If both Mafias outnumber the Greens/Blues, the Mafias still must fight for supremacy. The mafias are not allied; they are enemies.

I probably left a couple winning conditions out, but not many.

If both Mafias and Psycho-killer have been eradicated, the humans win.

If one Mafia outnumbers another and there are no other players, the larger Mafia wins.

And maybe one or two others. It's surprisingly clear-cut if you pay attention.

EDIT: The game has been played with groups from like 16 to 25 people or so. I think for the REALLY small games (10 or so people) each mafia had one member, or there was only one Mafia, or something. As I said, the rules can be adjusted according to how many people there are playing.

Yeah, I've played at Camp CAEN, too. It's where I first learned Mafia. This version does work surprisingly well, but only in huge groups, of 20 people or so (or more.)
