My usual simple/jTWG games went something like

Wolves
Master Wolf (sometimes, I'm on the fence about this one)
1 Guard
1 Seer
Humans

Adjust numbers depending on player signup, done. The absolute simplest game I've run was just wolves vs humans, no special roles on either side, but that gets kinda boring.

ooo that scumhunting training setup should be run but probably smaller player count rather than a larger group of players

Winning a manhunt as the sole wolf is my proudest accomplishment in this game, and I will probably never top it.

problem with that setup is follow the cop can happen, which makes the game kinda meh

even with a master wolf, the cop can claim at the start and the guardian will just protect them every single night

although admittedly that's easily fixed by nerfing guardian, you could just "guardian can't save the same person twice in a row"

basically i think twg has kinda grown from a party type game into a pretty dang serious thing on ffr, and setups that are played more recently at least attempt to hold some kind of balance aspect in question etc. etc.

Yeah I realized that and would either nerf guard or swap it out for a vigilante or something. Also FFR TWG has always been really serious so I can understand the worry. I'm not a clueless newbie, don't fret.

I remember that game!!

FFR TWG has changed a friggin lot, I'm still having trouble adjusting and I came back around August. Roundbox is still around and he helped me understand a lot of the newer adjustments, so did Manti, but sunfan is an awesome guy too for someone I've never played with, very nicely pointing out ways to acclimate to the new rules and stuff.

Obviously the basic game is the same, but there's a lot of stipulations that weren't here back about 7-10 years ago, like PM'ing the current host game suggestions to vote on instead of starting the thread, or more acute guidelines about angleshooting and such.

Great to see you, hope you play a game or 2 and we can catch up too!!

the biggest difference between today's average game vs a game from yesteryear is obv that thread-only games (no AIM, no Skype, no real phones, no postcards, and a QuickTopic for wolves, masons, etc. open only during Night phases) are now the norm
