I hate how people aren't submitting... I worked really hard on Like a Man and it was pretty much futile lmao now I need to do it again but with a completely different song. I have my fingers crossed for this one. Commencing creation after work tonight.

Also, is this tournament based more on how much fun a file is, or how hard it is? I realize that people all have various ideas of what fun is to them, but the DCP is based more on technicality than it is on fun, isn't it? Sorry if this is way off lmao its just been a nagging question at the back of my mind.

My file that I'm working on now is pretty fucin' easy right now lmao I'm having some troubles making it a harder file while still retaining the feel.

EDIT: WOOPS just read the rules and conditions rofl. Guess I'll just have to make it as close as possible as to how I want it... and hope for the best

dcp has a ton of 'technical' files
if you want a non-'technical' pack try dcmp; dcp2 was showing a lot of promise in becoming a pack concerned more with fun-factor as well.

technicality is still a dumb concept so i'm just gonna keep throwin that out there till it sticks; stop worrying about the technical accuracy of your file because it has nothing to do with anything

i might've worded differently. technicality in the sense of judging or qualifying simfiles has traditionally been an examination of said file's adherence in most/all situations to the typically-recognized 'fundamentals' of technical accuracy:

-pitch relevance
-layering (1-note per instrument chosen to follow, overlaps create doubles, triples, etc)
-rhythmic accuracy

to break from these fundamentals is referred to as 'erroneous' when judging technicality, when it's not actually the adherence to those rules that inherently makes a file more enjoyable or boosts its merit. when any of those concepts needs to be broken in order to a) better express the music, or b) add (or prevent the loss of) fun value to the file without severely detracting from the expressiveness of the music, they should under any and all circumstances. to detract merit from a simfile because of that would be silly

i'm not saying any of that to give the judges a hard time or anything, because i'm aware that today judges are (i hope) qualifying technical accuracy on the basis of how well the file reflects the music, not strictly the following of those rules. i'm saying it because it's ****ing intimidating to novice steppers to say something like 'we are judging your file based on technical accuracy,' when that shouldn't be something that preoccupies them or interferes with their ability to step the way they want to.

as for my own files, while i toot my own horn a lot for 'rule breaking' and eschewing layering/pr principles in favor of reflecting the music (mid dcp - post dcp mainly), my stepping style is still so rooted in mechanical straight-layering principles that i sometimes find myself making pretty generic over-layered files (ddestiny, oto, sin). still some stuff like loli fishing, doughnuts, night and day, and legend of zelda would be deemed horrifyingly inaccurate by such a simple scale, though, and pretty much any kil file would have the same result despite him being heralded consistently as the greatest stepper of all time

its stepmania semantics for you and i who can interchangeably throw around 'technicality' or 'expressiveness;' but for novice steppers, it's a fear of making "errors," of being docked points for not stepping a very specific, rigid way, which is steering people the wrong way if anyone expects singles to go anywhere further (inb4lurker)
