Re: Xiao's Miniguide to Pad File Making

If you're making pad files, chances are you play pad.
If you play pad, you should know what type of things the game can throw at you, these little gimmicks, as well as what would be "unfair".

Also, the doublestepping section is a bad example of doublstepping. Starting with left foot on up, and right foot on left (Crossed over behind you), you can do all but the last 6 notes without spins or doublestepping. You need to make use of the special kind of crossover used in Afronova (426,486,426,486) where occasionally you'd have to have your left foot on the right panel, and your right foot on the left, but you technically don't need to do a 360° or doublestep to do these.

    *Shrug*
I'm just being a critic, and I'm hungry. Bad combo ^^

Re: Xiao's Miniguide to Pad File Making

That was the best one I could come up with; I realize that the beginning is possible with a backwards crossover. I couldn't get it to be 100% foolproof, so I threw in those last 6 arrows for good measure. ;P

Also, while yes, if you make pad files and play pad, it should by reasoning, come naturally to you. However, I have a friend who can clear 12's on ITG, and still makes atrocious pad errors in his files.

You never know, someone might derive some use out of this. Then again, maybe not, haha.
Why would you put that in your signature? You've lost your signature rights for a month. (You'll get them back on March 10th, 2012.)

It'd be safe to mention to not make the whole entire stepchart a mine run. It's not fun and just plain terrible as you need a rest from them at times. Keep them in certain sections of the song where it makes sense, and in easy parts to keep the stepchart balanced.

The purpose of mines is to restrict movement. To force someone to lift their foot after a hold. A quad-mine forces someone to jump completely off the pad (Or to return completely to the center). Occasionally (Like in the ITG song, Soapy Bubbles) you just have a huge wall of mines, and the odd arrow here and there. For these, you're intended to stand in the center, and just hit them with 1 foot, and return to the center.

Beyond that, there's not really much of a sane use for mines.

Oh, and to spell out letters :P

You could also hide the arrows like in Powerpill so people would have to lear how to FC it without hitting a mine.

Another thing, used in songs like Suhsuixamush, you can put mines in strategic points, then use a negative BPM to give the illusion of those mines turning into arrows. Very tricky ;D

As I said, don't overuse them (the mines), or it will suck terribly. It may be my opinion, but it's from my own experience.

You can use them for unique ways though (Spell Words, tap arrows, etc.). I can appreciate that.

Re: Xiao's Miniguide to Pad File Making

                        Nice stuff, nice stuff

I'd just like to shove in on the "Half Turns" section, it resembles the

LDR LUR LDR LUR LDR LRU stream in afronova
(Also see Mungyodance's "Emerge" oni for this in 16th note form)

(For the rest of this post, we're assuming there isn't a break between any groups, its just for aesthetic)

There's actually a very elegant way to do these that I wish more people knew of:

Start facing left, right foot on L and left foot on D. This requires a bit of setup, so they need a beat in advance.

Step the LDR with R L R, then bring your left up to left panel,
Step the LUR with L R L, your right foot going to the "up button, then move right foot back to left panel

I started loving afronova whenever I learned how to do these. Remember, if its

                        RDL RUL RDL RUL ...
Just flip everything 180* and use left where you would right foot.

Also, you could theoretically use it on
                        ULD URD ULD URD ...
                        What do you see? Yes!
U LDUR LDUR LDUR D < Every time you do the LDUR pattern, you're doing this strategy.

HOWEVER, don't confuse these with this sort of turns:
LDR LDR LDR LDR is not a Halfturn (its full on spinning)
LUR LUR LUR LUR is not a Halfturn (its full on spinning)
                        ULD ULD ULD ULD ...
URD URD URD URD ... (there are a few others that do the same thing)

                        K i'm done ^^
Even if there is space between each triad, its still awkward
