I'm stepping some live classical music

It happens to be a recording of the Legend of Zelda Kokori Theme

This is my first simfile and I'm having some trouble with the BPM changes.

I think I got the gap pretty much right on, but after that it feels kinda loose compared to the accuracy of many files that I have seen.

I'm using stops during rests, but I'm not sure where to put them. Do you put them between notes or right on the beat?

Basically I'm asking for some tips on how to get the BPM changes down.

Don't use stops. Here's what you do.

Listen to the song until you're able to tap along with it. Then, go into the editor, make the BPM pretty high, 300 should work. Then select maybe 8 or 10 measures, hit ctrl+r, then tap along with the song. Keep SM up, and open up an empty notepad. Write down the exact time of the first beat, and set that as your offset. Then with the next step, make that anything you want, like a 8th, 16th, or 32nd, and map the bpm so that that step is the exact time of what you wrote down in notepad.

I believe that should help. If not, talk to someone else.

Live music is hell to step, especially if you're new (unless they used a click track or something, which I doubt seeing how it's classical style)

You'll probably have to end up changing the BPM at least every measure to keep the steps on sync. Otherwise you'd get one crappy simfile.
        yeah.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.

I guess I'll step the synth version first and then figure out where the BPM changes are in the live one.

          Thanks
