    First Simfile! Tell me what you think.

    After a lot of counting out BMP's, and a lot of editing arrows, I have created my first step.

    I Played it many times over, and it seems to be accurate to me.

    I knew this song could make a good simfile, so i decided to attempt it.

    There are BMP changes and everything, I'd put the difficultly at about a 10.

          Not bad for a first, but it wasn't the most accurate simfile. Play portions of your steps with a song speed of x.5 or x.3. You can change this in the "song options" menu. While this slow you should be able to tell what notes are off. The most noitceable were the egith note streams towards the end of the song. They should have been triplets as opposed to eighth notes and thus felt wrong. The rest of the song was only so so, but it's not a very good song to step (especially as your first one). Try to find a good techno song (any genre within that broad realm of electronica) and pick a song with some basic but varying rhythyms.

          I would play it again and give more feedback, but I hate screamo and really just can't make it through that song again... sorry.

              Ok, pretty good, let me teach you how to make all pretty.

              For the background you take your picture (Best a .png file) and put -bg at the end. Also, put no caps or spaces.

              I.E.

              axe_of_redeption-bg.png

              Banners are the same, just -bn at the end.

              I.E.

              axe_of_redeption-bn.png

              For CDTitles , put ! in the front and no caps or spaces. Be sure to put cdtitle at the end

              I.E.

              !dragulacdtitle.png

              There you have it!

              EDIT: For the difficulty, go to where it says Single Manic: in the .dwi file and replace the one with a ten, for example.

                  Brain trust: Ok, thanks for the feedback. I don't know any eletronica artists besides for songs that have already been stepped, but I'll work on find calmer rock songs that have a simpler beat.

                  Honestly, I am surprised you think the end is the least accurate, because I get all marvs through the end (After the last BPM change)... but no matter, your advice is well appreciated.

                  P.S. I wanted to make them triplets at first, but if you listen close it's 4 notes then 7. I figured if there were 4 notes it'd be 8th notes.

                  And future reference, it's of the hardcore genre

                      Most people suggest editing DDR songs as practice for their first few simfiles. The BPM is already figured out for you and the patterns tend to be relatively easy to follow.

                          Overall, alrightish, but for a first, it's not bad at all. There's subtle nuances in simfile making regarding pattern choice that you're picking up on, which is good. I'd say that for you, to the edit/sync section and really observe and decipher some stepfiles from Toph, Zag, and DMT. Otherwise, just keep stepping stuff, and after 10 or 20 files you'll start to get a good feel for it and your own personal stepping style.

                              Okay, here's how to remember:

                              BPM, P before M, is Beats Per Minute.
                              BMP, M before P, is Bitmap, a type of image (.bmp)

                              Does dyslexia make it hard to play Stepmania?

                                  It can actually, Every once in a while I do quick up down patterns with the wrong arrow first. lol.

                                  Thanks for the rest of the comments guys, I'm going to make another one tomorrow probably.
