    Simfiles From the Newcomer...

Well, as evidenced by my post count I have been frequenting this forum for all of...an hour. However, I have played SM for some time now and have only recently tried making keyboard files. As this is a practice I am not terribly familliar with, I leave myself open to criticism and scrutiny (and suggestions, I hope) from all you out there willing to give my new work a try.

This first one is my version of a song from Foonmix, which, despite being almost overly simple musically, I thought would be okay for a first public attempt. I admit I got a little lax near the end, but I hope it is still enjoyable.

Also, I have not worked with graphical editing programs for very long, either, (have had Photoshop for about...four months) and I would therefore also like to hear your thoughts on the graphics.

Well, here's hoping that this one is, at the very least, tolerable, and that future attempts will improve.

I could barely tell what you were following. There was only one time where I could see any relevance to your steps.

There are a lot of sounds (particularly the drum and bass) that could be stepped. The 12th/24th notes didn't go to anything at all, but I could tell what you tried to step it to.

You patterns were pretty good, although it had the annoying jack into a double syndrome as index-like files tend to have (not a bad thing, it's just annoying for non indexers).

As for the gfx, they're a whole lot better than the file. They seem to do the job pretty well, although that font does look rather bland to me.

Keep working on it and good job for the effort.
YOU JUST WON THE GAME! CONGRATULATIONS!

I have to admit that so far, the reaction is a little better than I had anticipated.

In retrospect, I can see what you mean about some steps not actually following the song. It really stands out at the beginning and at the end. I guess, at the time, it was less about trying to make a cohesive file than it was about adding steps so the patterns wouldn't seem so bland.

Also, I thought that the 12th/24th beats would work, but I guess that the hi-hat at that point is a little too quiet and it was hard to tell where exactly to place the beat. I'll take that into consideration.

Well, time to revise. Thanks again for your time.

Lastly, I admit to still being hooked on Foonmix, so I might release something more from that. Should I feel satisfied with the idea in the near future, I'll be sure to add it to the database.

As usual, I remain open to new suggestions or critiques.

EDIT: Ladies and gentlemen...I give you...kioku.

Now, I know I have just made the most unimpressive graphical combination since...I don't know...annon's version of "bbblow" that appeared in the SmO pack...I'm pretty sure it was made with MS Paint.

However, I am looking more for judgement on the quality of the file this time around. It's a little simpler than that last one, and relies more on streams. The section near the middle is not terribly impressive, so if anyone can suggest improvements for that, let me know.

Also, I know I have Foonmix and ATMBZK on the brain right now, but I'm already getting ideas for other things to work on in the future. In any event, I hope this file is more agreeable than the last one.
