I think the most important thing to do is to collect a wide variety, not a lot of files at one difficulty. When you have a lot of files you'll gravitate toward the ones that are around your difficulty level, but the beauty is once you get better you already have hard files to try out to help you get even better.
Once you collect a lot of files, make sure to play ones that aren't easy for you. Challenging yourself is the fastest way to improve.
