    My first DWI and something about Index Versions

    Yeah, so I made my first one.

    Anyway, I've noticed a lot of people mentioning indexes and index versions, oni, and some other terms. What's that? Are there certain standards for a step-file besides proper formatting? Are there certain combos of arrows that are considered unorthodox?

    if its your first its probobly index freindly, no triple steps, and oni is just a nerdy/advanced term for challange difficulty.

      Geki = Heavy
      Oni = Challenge
      It's japanese/english.

      I dunno why people use oni instead of challenge (when they don't use the other ones, liek geki), they just do.

      Index = Playing only with your index fingers (i.e. two fingers)
      Index "version" of a file = changed patterns so they are easier to get using indexes, no hands (hands, btw, is when you have 3 arrows at the sime time, quads means four arrows).

      And blah blah. Go learn yourself

        Different people play Stepmania with different styles. Some play with one hand. Others play with their two indexes. Some play with their indexes, middle, and ring. Some play with both their indexes and middles, spread out on the keyboard.

        The point being, those who play index shouldn't have to do retarded stuff like 268426842684 (numbers corresponding to their place on the numpad). That said, you don't need to put constraints like that on your first file. Go nuts.

          Oni means demon in Japanese. And stuff.

          It's used in DDR, so people use it for SM.

            Oni sounds more hardcore.

            Challenge sounds ghey.
