    n00bish question... (Part Trois)

    Ok, as far as stepfile creation goes, I would like to know if there is a way to add triple-beats in without modifying the tempo. What do I mean when I say "triple-beat"? I mean a musical triplet (3 notes in the place where four should be, each holding an equal value). Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

    Part II:
    Ok, so after installing Step Mania and getting the initial file set up I was having a slight difficulty getting the program to acknowledge the existence of my song. However, I realized that it needed a *.dwi file instead of a *.sm file to operate. The only problem is that now I'm getting the following error when the program tries to load up:

    Crash Info:
    Assertion '0' Failed
    *.DWI file:
    Code:
    #TITLE:Kingdom Hearts - Above the Rising

    Falls;
    #ARTIST:sephfire;
    #MUSIC:Kingdom_Hearts_AbovetheRisingFalls_OC_ReMix.mp3;
    #GAP:0;
    #BPM:192;
    #single:Challenging:5:00000000
    If you want the crash report I can get you that, I would just like to get this up and running. Thanks.

    Part III:
    Ok, now this will hopefully be the last question I ask. Let's say you have this awesome song you're making a simfile for, but you don't know what the tempo (bpm) is. How would you go about figuring that out with or without additional programming (if an additional program is needed, where can I get it)? Thanks in advance.

      RE: n00bish question...

      i believe you mean using 12th, 24th and 48th notes... which are 3rds/6ths/12ths... instead of 4ths/8ths/16ths/32nds/64ths.

      yes... you can use 12ths and 24ths, if the song is in that beat. stepmania has notes for them. 12th=purple, 24th=pink. 48ths are light blue, i think... not sure.

        Exactly, Tasselfoot.
        The question is how do I denote the notes that are faster than 16, and how do I offset it to 12th/24th/48th/etc.?

          don't use 12th notes unless the beat calls for it. and, if it does.... um, it should be very simple in stepmania's editor... just keep going through the notes. i forget how, but i know its not difficult.

              using stepmania is much easier. to get 32nds or 64ths in notepad... use parenthesis inside your parenthesis.... it gets confusing.

                192nds are so easy to make in notepad. Just put `192 numbers go here' and voila.

                  Alright, this is going to sound very absurdly n00bish of me, but I have a problem with Step Mania now (downloaded and installed). I had the same problem with my DWI; I can't get it to register that I've created a new group and song folder. The folder is there, with the song and everything in it, the program just keeps saying "No Songs Installed." Anyone know what I've done wrong?

                    go into options... turn off fast load... then go to reload songs/courses. that should work.

                        When you get to your Songs folder in your Stepmania CVS or Stepmania folder.

                        Create a folder called Jpec (just for fun)

                        then inside the Jpec folder it will have a song folder. When you open that song folder it should have the Mp3 and DWI, not another folder to open.

                          That's how it's set up, but it's not acknowledging the song's existence...

                            Well now it might depend on the version you have. Try using alpha23...it's probably the best one or reinstall the one you have.
