Re: Full House [RELEASE]
TBH you're wasting time and my advice was actually good, but alright. Keep trying for a change that will never happen.
Go actually make a fileComment

Re: Full House [RELEASE]
went thru the pack and they're generally fun files
nice job penguin
the whole discussion abt resteps is dumb - if anything, if u like a "restepped" song, that just means you get to have more files to play; why is it so hard to let ppl enjoy things lmaoComment

Re: Full House [RELEASE]
I've been bothered all weekend by this
penguin if you're still not interested in nuance just skip to the end for the apology
I think this is where the mindset comes in the first place since it's just some of us old morons who still hold it. I'm gonna use the stepmania france thread again as an example since nullifidan commented on what was wrong about the charts in that pack. offsync notes, blue/yellow note syndrome, that kinda stuff just doesn't exist anymore lol. tools like ddream and arrowvortex have greatly minimized the chances of that stuff happening, at least by accident.
just look at this quote
charting shit with the og stepmania 3.9 editor was such a pain in the ass for most people that if you were some random user posting a chart for a song that already had a chart, by someone who was well known in that community, the default assumption was that you didn't sync it yourself. that your sync was "stolen" lmao. I know for a fact that the very first thing I posted to the ffr simfile db when it opened up was a chart for some song off the frequency soundtrack, and it was off by at least 2-3 bpm, and that song's tempo is literally displayed in the rhythm game it came from. then ofc when I used the real tempo for the v2 it was still bad.
I'm not going to download sm 3.9 to confirm exactly how I synced stuff but iirc it was something along the lines of start with high bpm, ctrl+r 64ths, use the timestamps of the notes that tick the closest to figure out offset and starting bpm, then dialed it in as I went along. it's probably why you can find weird tempo changes in older files, some people used microstops to fix sync issues too.
I guess ultimately the reasons why people complained about resteps back in ancient stepmanialand all boil down to this collective understanding that resteps were usually going to be bad to some degree. part of it would have been due to limitations of the built-in editor, part of it would have been due to less widespread knowledge of what classically makes a file "good" (and the dark chancellor era certainly didn't help that shit out at all). part of it's definitely coming from this pretentious idea that charts are a competition tho. aka
those first two aren't really an issue anymore lol. static tempos are solved with a button press, dynamic tempos are solved with the visual waveform, and the fundamentals of Making A Good File are so more well defined nowadays there's a website for it. all that's left is that pretentious bit and it's not really fair to anyone organizing and releasing packs this big in 2022 to keep doing that when it's clear that people still care enough about the game. I definitely know I can care too much lol. I said I'd make video guides using the info from that website, that seems like a way better use of my time than being an asshole about stepmania.
sorry for being a dipshit bub. I skimmed through the pack while typing this up and yep, it pretty much looks fine and the only gripe I have is song choice, which is all subjective nonsense anyway. I'll pick through it this week and comment on the cool stuff on the weekend. roflcopter actually is a good shitpost, damn.
fuck you is lame, tho. sorry evening. this is boring.Last edited by _choof; 06-13-2022, 12:54 PM.Comment

also in defense for evening, let me give context to what fuck you is. that file is from 2015 and he had deleted it from everywhere until i messaged him
