This file is very reminiscent of the 2008-2010 style and I think the most interesting thing about this submission is how much it highlights the difference in general dump charting styles between then and now (if only in my own approach).

Otherwise both the song and chart are mostly "meh". I don't think there's enough variation either within the song or chart to really justify a full step. I would cut it after the 2nd verse @148s. Slam a freeze on the right arrow and you have a perfect fade out to the slow "da da dada da".

There's some degree of difficulty inconsistency with the way you pattern the end of 32nd js patterns where you have 16ths jump frequency but leave out the jump on the 4th. I think the general approach is fitting but sometimes you have 3 note anchors and a chain and other times you have 2 16th minijacks on opposite hands, and a bunch of other variations that lie somewhere between the two extremes.

I'm unconvinced with the use of both 24th and 32nd long trills (both as in both together, not one and the other, I think the 24ths alone are fine), particularly towards the end. There's a reason I began to move away from them in my own charting and it's less the result of a gradual drift of style and more the result of playing my files and being like "ok these trills really don't add anything".

However it's not all bad, the 48ths sans 16ths are a charming throwback to another era. The short 48th split rolls are spicy but not too hot.

Neither of us think the negatives (or, "mehgatives") detract enough from the file as-is to flat out reject it and ask for a re-submission, however we both think this sets the bottom-of-the-barrel standard (mind you we are also both biased pretty heavily against the song if you can find the song with a french translation or soeem shit send that up). You can still chisel out a solid chart from what you already have with a cut and some extra detail passes. How far you want to take that, if anywhere at all, is up to you.

edit: ok after playing this a few times at a couple different rates I have more to say. First this is actually surprisingly fun. That fact doesn't really change my mind about most of the comments however point 2 about 32nd js patterning inconsistency is sort of moot. The 32nd js doesn't really function as the meat of the file in terms of difficulty so the inconsistency is not so noticeable. I would still do an edit pass and break up the more offensive hidden chains.

The slow 24ths with mines that go to the "shit" sections are unairquote("shit"). As in they're shit. They aren't super shit they're just generic and there's a lot of interesting stuff going on with the vocals here. Think about adding some short 48th bursts to the held end of "day" that transition into smooth 32nds that go to the unintelligible shouting? 32nd minitrills would also work. There's a lot of cool stuff you could do here, get a little creative.

I'm also walking back a little on my condemnation of all the 32nd trills. Some of them are ok, mostly the ones near no major 32nd sections, such as at 100s. I still think something else could supplant them, but it's no big deal, they play fine. However, the ones within the chorus that go to "full of shit" need to go, full stop.

4.5s - I would make this 16th a single not and not a jump, you want to accentuate the galloping nature of the synth in this section rather than dilute it by layering drum hits. Same goes for any other time this happens in the intro.
17s - You have this awkward non-static 4343 pattern on the right hand that straddles two halves of a vocal transition. It doesn't really work. There should be a prominent turn in the patterns that matches the down->up in pitch of the vocals here. Try something like

30s - the lack of notes during "tears" felt awkward during each playthrough. The same pattern/empty space at 34s is fine because "you" is sung much more quickly, but you need to fill this out a little.
69s - example of awful hidden chain in the 32nd js (also if you are repatterning these I would play around with making each ending 8th a hand to give a little more kick to the finality of the pattern)

I've probably spent more time reviewing this file than any other so far despite both lofty and I seeing it as a relatively weak submission. I now think with a little polish this can make a strong entry and I'd like to see you put in the work to that end.


Chill Bill (lofty) - I don't know how you can take a shitty rap over the kill bill whistling song and make an engaging and expressive chart that makes me want to play more of the song. I love the juxtaposition of the sweeping/trilly whistle patterns in the intro with the minijacks that kick in with the rapper at 35s, and the continuing push and pull between the foreground rap and background whistling. This is an expose on how to do a lot with very little and sits near the top of the pool for me.

Method of Deconstruction (choof) - Going to have to pass on this. The file is dumpy yes and there are some pretty fun/interesting patterns, however it isn't enough to overcome the fact that the song choice is basically antithetical to the desired music for the pack. I would not resubmit, and if you intend to submit/release the file elsewhere I would seriously consider toning down the jacky 32nds near the very end.





additional comments on already pooled files:

Migrant at Daybreak (swiftwinter) - The quick swap from left hand to right hand trill here is kind of awkward and doesn't really flow to the music. 84.370-end you have jumps on the prominent sounds and it feels a little lackluster. I'd like to see the more prominent sounds represented more intensely (triplets were suggested by lofty) or some of the unstepped background sounds to be brought forward. Currently the ending feels less like an ending/outro and more like an afterthought.


Ignite (fanta) - You need to do something about the section at 153 that is beyond simple repatterning. Ditch the 48ths and replace them with 32nds, or space out the last 48th from the jumpjack a little more. Or just ditch the 48ths entirely and recycle what you had for this earlier in the song. It just doesn't work right now. The long left arrow freeze with sparse minijacks on other columns that immediately follows this section feels less "lenient" than "empty". I think you can represent each sound rather than every other without it being too difficult, if it is, then find another way to do this.

Changes to the hidden chains are A+ at first glance. They're still a noticeable spike in difficulty but not outside of reason and spaced well enough to allow recovery.

187s - I was going to request that you don't feed the 48th jt roll into an 8th hand to form the somewhat awkward 12th jack, but after looking at it and realizing that the hand on the 8th goes to nothing that's been promoted from a prospective request to an imperative. Get rid of it. You might also consider ending the 48th roll on the preceding 4th since that's when the vocals end, but again, don't do it in a way that produces a 12th jack. There's not enough "snap" between the roll sound and the synth in the background to justify one. If there were a loud cymbal crash on the 4th I'd let it slide, but there isn't.

175s - I'm not a huge fan of this, on the other hand, this is probably the most distinctively "fanta" pattern in the file. I make it a point to try not to impose my own style on the charts of others when reviewing and I think asking you to remove this would rob the chart of something that gives it a distinctly "fantaesque" feel, however it doesn't appropriately represent the feel of the section (I would abandon the freeze to the whooshing sound and focus on the back/forth tension of the strings with lightly anchored js, or even do that and keep the whoosh freeze?). If you're going to use a signature fanta pattern, use it in signature fanta style. Going back to my previous comment about the jt 48th roll at 187 (and the reason why this comment is out of order timestamp wise) - I think it makes the most sense to replace the 48th roll with this pattern here and then fill the remaining void with something a little more mundane. That way you solve two problems at once without sacrificing any character of the chart. Also it will make me happy which should ultimately be everyone's goal in life.

I agree I didn't really know what I wanted to do with the ending and I didn't want to cut it because it sounds cool so I will attempt to make it more unique following this advice. i'll send a fix in a day or two.
