Untitled StepMania Pack v2 (Graphics Needed)

    The Untitled StepMania Pack

Previous thread for rules and overview: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...d.php?t=134306
    Submission e-mail: [email protected]

Since posting in December, 25 files have been accepted, some with multiple difficulties. Many files still need graphics done, and in the meantime we will still be accepting more files. Once all files have graphics the pack will be ready for release!

Deadline for submissions is July 6 midnight!
No files will be accepted after that point.

    Reviews:

    (porkypink) modern times - Rejected

in the intro where you are missing a lot of 48th grace notes given that you're placing them in other parts, also the PR is backwards at times, and it isn't clear what a lot of the jumps are going to; they seem just placed on 4th notes
19.7s - it's just tom drum only so jumps aren't merited
20.6s - in this section minijack usage doesn't seem to be correlating to anything, also snare is relatively very prominent to be ignored in lieu of the bass guitar, and there are some ghost notes
38.9s - 176 bpm jacks are very out of place difficulty-wise, and kill all scoring potential of the file
45.5s - in all of this 24th stream the snare is very prominent and feels very lacking to be ignored, along with background guitar, and various cymbal percussion
53.7s - again, here there are lots of prominent percussion sounds, especially the loud cymbals, that are ignored and background guitar is layered instead
85.7s - both vocals and cymbals can be layered here, not just single notes for background guitar
in the whole file there are a ton of subbeats right after the beats which aren't necessary and are only changing the BPM by less than .1 and will just make the simfile lag for some people

    c-r-a-c-k-ER (bmah) - Accepted

very interesting and unique rap file, both difficulties are good and all the notes to the rapping are accurate

    WOBBLE IMPACT (Razor) - Accepted

good job fixing and improving everything from the last submission as specified in the previous review

Sarcacid Part 1 (Valor) - Conditional

the 48th swing is quite an interesting novelty but the track and file start to drag pretty quickly, and there's something to be said about using a huge majority of [12]/[34] without other jumps, and sound matching can be quite improved in many places. structure is ok though and is possibly acceptable if improved

Pepper Steak (James May) - Rejected

7.4s - this saxophone section is pretty inaccurate: there are a few notes in between the notes you have, the triplet should only be 1 or 2 notes, the 48th roll is just 2 32nds, and the pr is backwards
9.4s - starting here the drum plays at constant 16ths, not broken. if it's for the background instrument, many notes are missed
    41s - 32nds, not 48ths
    41.3s, 41.7s - 32nd, not 64ths
the ending sax is very inaccurate

the 2nd half of the track is basically a repetition of the first, and the whole song has a very eerie mood

Yoru Naku Usagi wa Yume wo Miru (Kaneh) - Rejected

25s - layering starts to become very counterintuitive as to why hands are introduced but not used on, for example, the cymbal that starts the section
35.7s - hand usage isn't clear starting here: hands and jumps aren't consistently used to match vocals or snare
    41.7s - missing 16th note for drum
    45.8s - ghost note
past here there are a number of other missed notes and ghost notes
using hands throughout for snare leads to many places being overcrowded when jumps plenty suffice, and in many parts of the file there are hands and jumps being used without being able to tell what they're corresponding to

    Kuon no Hate - Rejected
    - intro should really just be cut to a fade in, it's 11 seconds of nothing happening
    - i disagree with using minijacks for the snares because it's rather arbitrary. i'd use either full blown jacks for all of them or trills.
    - guitar appears to not be PRed for most of the file
    - really needs some hand usage especially for heavy crashes
    - sustained guitar notes should use holds, there is really no reason not to. sustained crash notes could also use them as well.
    - layering is really inconsistent, you have jumps to certain things but not to others when there are the same exact things playing at the same time i.e. @ 24.331
    - overall, the file needs a lot of work and the structure is rather arbitrary. i won't be able to accept it like this.

Karera Futari Wa Ai To Kanki No Gokusai Sekai No Naka O Aruite Iru - Conditional
    - remove the reverb notes in the beginning. either don't step them at all (i prefer this more) or replace them with mines
    - regarding your hold usage, it's not necessary to step every note in a hand or jump as a hold if only a single or two notes in the hand or jump are a sustained note. you do this quite a few times in this file (i.e. @ 135.484).
    - fix these two things and i'll accept this

    Squeak Squad Theme - Accepted
    - pr could be improved a bit in some of the jumpstream. it's not really a big deal so i won't expound upon it in this review. if you would like me to, just ask.
    - file is nice and short with decent pattern variety so it doesn't drag.

    Oriens (Gundam Dude) - Conditional

41.637s, 41.799s-42.205s, 52.015s, 52.259s-52.583s, around 53.880s, etc where these all repeat - there are audible strings which should be stepped as 16ths. there are other places too but these ones stood out the most. i can understand ignoring some of them or stepping them as only 8ths in some places when they're not as clearly audible, but there are definitely sections where it doesn't work.

everything is copy/pasted, given that the track repeats itself a ton you can vary the patterns, and even columns used for the trills

still, the structure of both difficulties is good, but i think it needs to be improved before it can be accepted, definitely has potential.

Ofcourse you Need and nEed and neEd and neeD and NEED ME (Scylaax) - Rejected

as much as i like the track, i don't see much in enjoyment in this chart. a lot of it feels way overstepped with hands used on every 4th for several measures in a row. this would probably need a cut and stepping parts differently to be acceptable

    squall (rCaliberGX) - Conditional
33.078s - all these 64ths for the percussion were just stepped as 16ths earlier, it's better to keep them all as 16ths
the synth should be snapped to 1/12th after the 4th, not 1/8th for these first few beats
    43.024s - ditto for all
    56.865s - just a 16th
    69.312s - ghost 16th
70.496s - 24ths after the 4th until the 8th, then 48ths from the 8th to the last 24th, last 24th after the minihold is a ghost note
    71.128s - 24ths between the 4th and 8th
    74.443s - same 16ths vs 64ths problem, they sound like 16ths anyway
    78.489s - ghost 64th
    81.666s - ghost 32nd
82.752s - these percussion sounds aren't audible as the background sound intensifies before the climax (it actually also occurs on the following beat and beat before the previous)
    97.967 - 24th triplet
    100.573s - missing 16th

really cool chart but a fair amount of inaccuracies right now

    Cold Heart - Accepted
    - damn this is hard

Just a Little Smile -SF_DubStep Mix- - Rejected
    - way too many errors to enumerate with missing notes, misrhythms, etc.
    - song isn't particularly interested and probably wouldn't accept it even if it was fixed, sorry

Tori no Uta (The Speedfreak's Noise Rave Mix) - Rejected
    - there is already quite a few files for this song. it needs to be really unique to warrant yet another restep.
    - again this song isn't particularly interesting. way too much 8th streaming and not much really happens.
    - numerous errors in the 2nd half of the file mostly including layering issues

    Odd22 - Accepted
    - always the hard files from you

    Shin sekai
    - Accepted
    - nathan's file that i helped revise. adding this to the pack.

    Plunging Hornets - Conditional
    - beginning needs a significant cut. almost a full minute when the rest of the file is much harder.
    - sections starting @ 1 minute needs a lot more variety in patterning. way too many [12] and [34] jumps

    Insane Techniques (AlexDest) - Accepted

there are still a few spots that can be accented better (in my opinion), but it's accepted as is

    Atropos (rCaliberGX) - Rejected

8.136s - not sure if accidental but no need to just put 1 roll here and then nowhere else for the whole file
29.656s - listen closely, the 24ths are constant
32.532s - in these sections all the mini jacks dont make sense, the pitch is constantly ascending. it's an interesting touch to accentuate the highest part of the melody, but coupled with the fact that so many jacks and minijacks are being used everywhere else in the file it's over the top
44.235s - bad pr for the bass piano note
74.730s - mixing the layering with the almost inaudible percussion in the background with the foreground piano makes this part quite amibguous and confusing to play, whereas it'd be better to stick to the audible snare, for example the trill at 78s and the jump layered into it
89.977s - long jumptrill for a fairly soft sound that is changing is pretty uncreative

while there were a lot of good aspects in this chart and good mine/hold usage for the staccato/legato piano, jack usage seemed over the top and forced where trills or just regular 16ths patterns would suffice, reserving the jacks for certain elements. the layering is quite heavy in some of the quieter parts too, and in some cases it's amibguous what is being followed such as the case in 74.7s

    squall [revision] (rCaliberGX)
    - Conditional

    73.549s - two missing 24ths
    74.180s - ditto
85.416s - missing 16th. there is actually a pattern of a 16th triplet after the hand on the 4th, then a 24th triplet every 8 beats, hence the missing notes i'm pointing out
86.442s - drums here are just 16ths, not sure about 24ths. also there are missing 16ths before the 24ths
    87.916s - two missing 24ths
    90.468s - missing 16th

much better now, and accepted after fixed

Oh, how'd you figure out 176 bpm? was havin a hard time with flux'd 118 bpm.
You changed every 2nd green note into a 4th note? Or is it some simple algebra Im too retarded to figure out.

Re: Untitled StepMania Pack v2 (Graphics Needed)

It's a basic quantize calculation that you can do by simply taking the speed of the song and the rhythm used, and multiply it by the number of notes in a beat / number of notes in a beat for desired notation (alternatively, you could simply multiply by the first rhythmic notation and the desired notation to check against, as they will cancel in the same manner).

For example, if I had 190 BPM 12th jacks and wanted to see how fast they were as 16ths, I would multiply 190 BPM by 3/4 (three 12th notes in a single beat, four 16th notes in a single beat). Therefore, 190 BPM 12th note jacks = 142.5 BPM 16th note jacks.

EDIT: additionally, if you have really strange rhythms, you can use the fractions directly (as mentioned with rhythmic notations) -- previous example -> 190 12ths * [(12/1) / (16/1)] = 142.5 16ths

                  a favorite of ITG players -> 200 * [(192/10) / (16/1)] = 240 16ths
                  Rave7 -> 200 24ths? -> 200 * [(24/1) / (16/1)] = 300 16ths

                  (etc)
