Retro Smash Collection Pack (Submissions OPEN)

    Submissions CLOSED until further notice

thanks to gold stinger and ryuyasha for helping me rename the pack

(anyone willing to create the pack banner it would be greatly appreciated)

I started a pack named "Stepmania Nostalgia Pack" during May 2011. Unfortunately, I ended up going on hiatus for a while and had Rebound take over. Once the pack was released, I was surprised at the amount of people that enjoyed it but sadly, no one plays the pack. It is forever lost in the archives of 'Failed Stepmania Packs'. However, I'm deciding as of now, to continue this with a different name for the pack concept. "Stepmania Nostalgia Pack" was too ambiguous of a name.

Retro is a culturally outdated or aged style, trend, mode, or fashion, from the overall post-modern past, that has since that time become functionally or superficially the norm once again.

Allow me to clarify with the concept of this pack. What this pack is aiming for is the simplistic stepping nature of simfiles (i.e. old-school, indexable). Dated back between 2004-2006, we had packs such as: Keyboard Collaboration, Community Keyboard Megapack, and even VGMP1. These packs have some memorable simfiles that up to this day we still play those. Eggman's Quasar, Hayden's Ageha, Joe's Uber Rave... You can go further into late 2006 when Puritanical Penis Pack 1 was released; the simfiles in that pack have given a whole new outlook on structure, technical attributes, etc. Ultimately, we have fully developed a style we utilize today and have stuck by it for a while.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Song Choice Rules:
-- I will allow resteps for any simfile that was dated before 2007, but I don't want to have the end result of this pack being named "Keyboard Megapack Collection 2.5" or any of the kind. So, keep resteps to a bare minimum.
-- No songs from artists like Katy Perry or fuckin' Fall Out Boy. Keep that away.
-- Song length should be kept at a 2:30 maximum. I will allow the occasional marathon files though.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Stepping Rules:
-- Step only index and old-school charts. Index are friendly patterns (no crossovers, jumpstream, etc.) for people who play with their index fingers only. Old-school basically means fun factor over technically accurate (you can step however you please for this but nothing dumpy).
-- Dump charts aren't allowed unless it meets the conditions in the s***estion given below.

    S***estions:
-- NVLM_ZK was the one who started the 'dumpfile' trend. If you want to mimic his simfiles then use the difficulties: Light, Standard, and Heavy as pad charts while leaving Oni as a full-on dump but it's still relative to the music in some way. His song choice consisted of songs from O2Jam. I will only accept one of these.
-- I'll accept a handstream simfile, but only if there's a watered down chart of it on a lower difficulty (e.g. Policy In The Sky and Moulin Rouge). I will only accept one of these.
-- Jumpstream simfiles will be allowed but, have most of them simple and easy. Don't want this pack to be Nuclear Blast-esque. Also have another chart that's watered down.

I will definitely play this if it ever comes out. I still love playing one-handed the most so handstreams and dumps are a no-go for me. If this gets oldschool SONGS in addition to oldschool charts, it will be awesome!

I could also try to step something for this. What kind of NPS difficulty are you looking for? (given that the other criteria are met) Is 6-7 NPS too easy?

As one of the rules states: A simfile must have 2 or more charts. 6-7 NPS is fine as long as it goes with one of the easier difficulties.

i feel like the last pack failed because almost no one can make a decent old-school file

I'm totally down to submit a file or two. making new-school files takes me forever, because I have to adjust my habitual ways of thinking. I can shit out an index chart in like 20 minutes though.

a pack like this one could potentially reach a very wide audience. have you considered enforcing 3+ or 4+ charts for each file?

Given the motivation of the people here, I doubt I'd get this pack finished if I enforced that.

2 charts is fairly enough, the rule can change to 1 chart when I get enough simfiles with 2+ charts. Right now, I'd want some variation between charts where one can be index and the other is old-school (e.g. your Eclipse -Luna- [Oni] simfile).

oh well if it's index you want

I have no problem with that

Make them indexable and people like me will put them on machines if they're fun and challenging!

I've been revisiting my simplistic style from back in like 2007–2008 lately

I may have something for this
