Re: "Play/Test/Judge my simfile" thread V2
Name: Aamelotasis
Style: 4key
Length: 5:49
Difficulty: 60-70 in FFR
My first attempt at stepping a song for FFR (first time uploading here also). This is a rough draft. Has mp3/SM files. Song author is Venetian Snares. If it matters, I used speed C550 and Judge 3 when making and playtesting this.
Feedback on song accuracy and assistance on stepping the weird patterns mentioned below - are welcome. Also I want to put the Terms & the Notes Below into a Show/Hide box, but I don't know how to do that.
Terms for the Notes Below:
Rows: The numbered line I see when editing the song in Stepmania 5.
INS: “Intentionally not stepping” a specific sound in a section either because it’d make the stepfile look cleaner or because I don’t know how to step it to make it fit (usually the latter).
W-w-w: “Weo-wah-wah”, my onomatopoeia for this one sound pattern.
Left swipe: The way I hit the numpad when the four wah’s or “[2]-[1]”s appear right after the w-w-w’s.
Snake: Long, wavy staircases.
Notes Below:
1. No mini-jacks on buzzes unless there's a drum beat to it.
2. The jumps and hands are usually [14] and [134] because they’re easier to hit one-handed.
3. INS - silent snares on row 41-49.
4. INS - 1+2 (3) drumbeat arrows on row 59.5-60.
5. INS - w-w-w’s and left swipes on row 64.5-69.
6. Not sure if the arrow pattern on row 72.5-73.5 is correct, but it could be cooler anyways.
7. INS - w-w-w on row 85-85.5.
8. INS - down-ups similar to row 102-111's on row 112-117.
9. INS – snake similar to row 123-124/125.5-126.5’s on row 128-129.
10. INS - 1+1 (2) drumbeat arrows on row 131-131.5.
11. INS - snake on row 133-134.
12. How to step rows 136-136.5/138-138.5/141-141.5, also make it cooler?
13. Unsure of the layering on row 145.5-147.
14. INS - w-w-w on row 156-156.5.
15. Unsure of the layering of row 156.75-157.25.
16. Row 158.25-158.75 isn't supposed to be a 32th staircase. Can be cooler.
17. INS - w-w-w on row 166-167.
18. INS - w-w-w on row 176-177.
19. Should I pick the style of alternating jumps on row 161.5-162.5 or row 182-183?
20. INS - w-w-w on row 186-187.
21. How to step the “bass drop/microphone slap” on row 191.5-192.25?
22. INS - 3+2 (5) drumbeat arrows on row 192.5-193.
23. INS - w-w-w on row 196-197.
24. Unsure of the chopped-up snake on row 196.5-197.5.

You're looking more for 170BPM with a -0.171 offset.
But to sum up the problems with your file: it lacks a structure. I don't understand at a glance your intentions of what you want the player to be playing.
But let me get you going in the right direction.
This link will give you a fixed sync copy of your file, where I also copy pasted your notes to be as close to where they were as the program could. It's going to be massively wrong, but I did it for you to have something to reference.
It also has a download of Arrow Vortex in it. I'm not well versed in it enough to help you, but if you join the FFR Discord server, there are plenty of people in the simfiles section of the chat who could give you a very good rundown (since now that I think on it, no one's made a guide for it yet.) Learning Arrow Vortex now will help you a lot in being able to sync songs.
I think now that you have a fixed sync, and when you go to fix it to that sync, you'll find / fix a lot of your own mistakes as you do it. Unfortunately, If you're making a one handed file for this song as you sorta implied, I don't think I've got the know-how to help you. Though maybe Bmah would be a person to ask, he made a one handed file that I played once so I he'd know more than me. Or maybe the player Bynary Fission if he's still around.
But best of luck.Last edited by XelNya; 11-24-2017, 08:41 PM.Comment

Re: "Play/Test/Judge my simfile" thread V2
Second attempt on Aamelotasis. This time - from the copy synced in Arrow Vortex. Purposely didn’t step the subtle background snares like at the beginning, constant buzzing sounds, and the Weo-Wah-Wah’s (First occurrence of WWW in Measures 61.5-62.5, or at 1:27-1:28 of the song).
To XelNya, I want the player to play the drum part of the song, since that is what most of the song is. However, just stepping the drums meant that the stepfile was going to be understepped, so the layers came in. I wasn’t sure what you meant by “structure”. But if I still haven’t achieved that after your second look through the stepfile, can you provide me with an example through another song (maybe a YouTube link) OR tell me what possible “structure” could be made from this song – and how I would do that?
Also, some possibly fun/important stuff below.
Self-imposed Rules (subject to change in future drafts):
1. The entire stepfile will flow like a zig-zag, intended to balance the stress placed on both left and right hand (or just right hand in my case).
2. Most of the drum notes will go back and forth, beginning either at a [1] or [4]. Most non-drum notes like the occasional loud, distinct snare will either go on a [2] or [3].
3. From Measures 0.00-39.13, the jumps used ([13], [14], [24]) will not represent a specific sound. Too many different sounds to represent as specific jumps. Instead, a jump will not look the same as the previous or the next jump, as a way to indicate that there is a different sound playing in each of these jumps.
4. The jumps [13] and [24] in Measures 46.00-49.88 will continue to be designated as [13] and [24] in later parts of the song, where this sound pattern will reoccur many times. Another example of this rule is in Measures 74.75-78.63.
5. On left swipes (the [2]-[1]’s that are first seen in Measures 68.34-68.84), I will partially ignore Rule #2 by not always starting a drum note at a [1] or [4].
6. On intense drumming sections like Measures 109.25-113.13, I will partially ignore Rule #2 by not always starting a drum note at a [1] or [4]. Here, I am going for stress balance and patterns that are clear to see/spaced apart. Another example of this rule is in Measures 143.75-163.88.
7. I will only use the jumps [12], [23], and [34] on special occasions.
Layering Attempts at Measures (X-Y):
1. (14.63-15.63) Wanted to fit in the loud snares with the soft drum roll, so I made them into jumps.
2. (31.13-31.38) Same reason as #1.
3. (36.88-37.13) Same reason as #1.
4. (58.38-59.25) Some of the drumming was mixed in with the 4-jump pattern, which is why I turned some of the jumps into hands.
5. (68.34-68.84) Wanted to fit the drum notes into the [2]-[1]’s.
6. (70.81-72.34) The buzzing wasn’t constant at this part. The two jumps at 71.13 and 71.5 are there b/c the drums were mixed in.
7. (80-80.4) Wanted to fit that one snare and drum note into the [2]-[1]’s.
8. (80.75-82.25) Same reason as #4.
9. (91.34-91.84) Same reason as #5. For every layering I did, I just added extra arrows to fit the extra sounds. But the resulting pattern for this section isn’t clean. Should I leave it as is OR is there an alternative?
10. (97.09-97.59) Same reason as #5. Same dilemma as #9.
11. (97.69-99.5) Same reason as #4.
12. (102.84-103.44) Same reason as #5. Same dilemma as #9.
13. (108.59-109.19) Same reason as #5. Same dilemma as #9.
14. (116-126.25) Wanted to fit the weird electronic sound with the drum notes. There are some ghost notes(?) where the electronic sound is present, but the drum isn’t. Should I leave it as is OR is there an alternative?
15. (182.13-182.25) Rule #2’s jump [24] mixes with a drum note to become hand [234].
16. (205.13-205.25) Same reason as #15.
Potential Layering Spots at Measures (X-Y) (optional)
1. (61.5-62.5) Maybe step a WWW here?
2. (67.25-68.25) WWW
3. (73-74) WWW
4. (78.63-79.63) WWW
5. (113.25-114.25) WWW
6. (126.5-136.75) Maybe step the weird electronic sounds in background - similar to the ones in Measures 116-126.25?
7. (164.5-166.59) Weird electronic sounds in background - lasers
8. (193.75-194.75) WWW
9. (196.5-200.25) Weird electronic sounds in background – birds chirping and engine running
10. (228.25-229.25) WWW
11. (230-231) Maybe step the scream?
12. (233.25-235.50) Scream
13. (235.75-247) Weird electronic sounds in background – birds chirping
