Re: FFR Community Pack Summer 2012 (Submissions Open)
Asking for way too much out of people in the community. I'm factoring in how lazy and half-assed people are with easier difficulties (even I'm guilty for doing it). It's hard enough to get people to make an extra chart but asking for 4 is overkill.
Ignoring the fact that only a small group of people play and step for solo, Solo Rulz 2 is the perfect example of what happens when you're this demanding of charts. And I don't have the time or generosity to fill in easier difficulties for every file like Solo Monogatari and Solord State Squad.
Until stepmania.com's grudge against FFR ever gets put behind them, no one there will support any packs that has FFR in the name. Sure, the packs would get more downloads, but the fact remains that there exist a good number of people there who hate the FFR community's guts, especially after all that dumbass forum raiding shenanigans done in the past.and release on stepmania.com
As much as nobody wants to acknowledge the fact that QED is basically the most prolifically known simfile author, he also has the largest fan base and insulting him insults all his followers. After all the bashing shenanigans in the past, people still hold grudges and hate FFR's guts.
Where do you draw the line?also quality over quantity.
This is a debate that can drag on forever. I've been observing both the simfile and player sides of SM closely for years, so I can more or less pick out which files people would actually play—that's exactly what I've been doing for every Season pack, if you haven't already realized. If certain individuals don't find files "good" (*cough* Chancellor elitist opinions *cough*), you should always remember that someone else will like it.
Prioritizing quality over quantity is taking a step back into the Chancellor era, quite frankly. Even if it was still me being sole judge, ultimately it's going to narrow itself back down to a tiny circle, which is something I would avoid at all costs. The Season packs were never about quantity over quality, it was always based around diversity to appeal to every player in the community. The fact that I get flooded with submissions every time I do these packs is why they end up being huge. Until I start enforcing a submissions limit rule per simfile author (including aliases), the packs will always be large in size regardless.
I don't want to start DRaMa or heated debates of sorts but I wanted to bring to light that the current situation isn't as easy to solve as it seems. I can make a ton of progress if the individuals that submit put in the necessary effort to aim towards the "goal" of getting new players in, but until then these packs aren't going to change much unless I enforce new rules and/or standards.
And I already do realize, it's impossible to achieve this "goal" until stepmania.com is made -the- epicenter for everything SM. I've already expressed way too many ****ing times that it's incredibly difficult to start playing this game when you have so many communities divided amongst each other, and creating a new community that has everything isn't going to be of any success until the proper affiliations with stepmania.com are settled and made.Last edited by Gundam-Dude; 06-2-2012, 12:47 PM.Comment

Yay for more newbie questions, but what's a fudge factor?Comment

Re: FFR Community Pack Summer 2012 (Submissions Open)
After getting a raw NPS calculation, apply FudgeFactor which takes into consideration all the subjective aspects of the simfile—difficulty of patterns, speed, density, etc. In short, you're adding/subtracting to the raw NPS to get a much more accurate measuring.Code:total tap notes in song / [(time of last note - time of first note) + 0.125 (1/8th note)] = raw NPS (0-0.499 is rounded down, 0.5-0.999 is rounded up) 1/8th note is added to balance out extremely short songs. If a song is ended on a hold, the time used is the start of the hold.
Short songs usually need to be fudged down a larger amount because the calculations always end up larger than it seems. From personal usage, I have only fudged down/up raw NPS by 1–4.Comment

fuc I completely forgot the SM editor gives you the total number of notes lmao. thanks for the formuler, GD. always good to be precise as possible. I also thoroughly enjoy the concept and name of FudgeFactor (o:
I had no idea. that sucks. maybe the whole SM community here could make a collective effort to patch relations with stepmania.com via banners that say "we wuv u and we sorry! lets be bffls!"Until stepmania.com's grudge against FFR ever gets put behind them, no one there will support any packs that has FFR in the name. I kid, of course, but a serious effort should be made imo. the sooner the better, too.Comment

Re: FFR Community Pack Summer 2012 (Submissions Open)
SM is all about crappy pad charts. At least that's what I saw.
PS: I hate QED but my packs are still being dl'd :VComment

Re: FFR Community Pack Summer 2012 (Submissions Open)
it's not completely impossible. if you did ask for 4 charts, no matter how lazy people are they would eventually do it. better yet, they would probably only bother to fully chart files that they consider quite good and worthy of doing. I know I would probably see it this way.
solo rulz 2 I already knew would take a very long time because the ratio of people who play and people who make files is like 1:100. I've already been doing all the easier charts for the files that have been submitted meanwhile and easier charts won't be the reason for this pack's delay anyways.
stepmania.com is all up to cHrIs DanFoeiorjdiojdf if he wants to legitimately keep interest in his game alive. Though ideally they would want us all to move over there and set up community shop there but we all know that won't happen any time soon
ait I realize quality over quantity is subjective, but maybe where i'm getting at is that the packs' names no longer have any individual appeal to them. If xoon 6 were ever made I don't think it would've gotten as much praise just because it's "another xoon pack". look at the vocamania packs lmaoLast edited by kommisar; 06-2-2012, 03:37 PM.

Only pack that got popular was the Party Pack, and only the 1st one. The others aren't getting that popular.Comment

Re: FFR Community Pack Summer 2012 (Submissions Open)
But Hatsune Miku is the vocal slut everyone uses. Or do you prefer Touhou Remix Pack XII?
Also, I'll fix the Healing Vision RMX and Interrupt gfx up so they're not dirty.
EDIT: They're fixed now.
