BKG questions

ok, so call this a nub question or whatnot...

but i have problems with the background (you'll notice it if you've downloaded a few of my sims)

Ok, so i put the two images -the one for the banner/BKG- into the song file like they're supposed to. (the images i usually use will be Jpeg, since i have no file converter)

Sometimes, the Banner will already be in use for the song, like i run SM after putting it in the file, and its there, and i'm done. But usually, the banner doesnt appear at all... One file i made, the banner didn't appear even after restarting SM a few times, and it somehow appeared once i opened it while FRAPS was running. so IDK...

Now the Backgound problem: I go to "edit song" or w/e...and i edit BKG so its the still image...but when i play it, the image doesnt appear till bar 1... so when it starts, there's the SM background instead of the one i chose...for example:

on this file i made, see how the bkg doesnt appear till bar1?
Now the weird part is that like the banner, sometimes the backgrounds work, and sometimes they do this...


so my question is if there's a way to fix/avoid this?
(or i guess basically, is there a tutorial as to how to use banners/bkg?)

edit the .sm in notepad so that it has
#BANNER:banner.jpg;
#BACKGROUND:background.jpg;

and don't use bgchanges to put in your background. you shouldn't need the step editor to put in a still bg that doesn't change.
