Tint each column blue.

If you're hitting too early in that column, tint it progressively greener.
If you're hitting late/notes are passing by in that column, tint it progressively redder.

Possibly just tint the targets idk

anyway the reason I ask is I'm thinking back to the last time I tried mashing disregard; after you start screwing up you keep screwing up because even though the patterns aren't getting any harder you have no idea which columns you've missed or hit an extra note in

it would help if notes vanished the instant they were hit even if it was a combo-breaking hit too

oh and combine this with something like...

marvelouses are white as before
hits in the early part of the window are various cool colours
hits in the late part of the window are various warm colours

something like this:
early late
Perfects: cyan yellow
Greats: green orange
Goods: blue red
Boos: indigo hot pink
(progressively getting a lil darker as you go down)
Miss: uh idk. I was thinking gunmetal gray but that's not very standy-outy. possibly brown
