call for noteskins - for latest sm cvs builds

i'm posting this here on behalf of the stepmania.com message board and the developers, in hopes that more people will see this:

As most people who have made a note skin have noticed, it's hard to keep them up to date; we inevitably change them incompatibly across major versions. This results in a lot of note skins being created for a version, never being updated to the next, and eventually becoming lost.

We'd like to add good noteskins to StepMania. These would be maintained along with the rest of the game, and be distributed with the game or as an add-on distributed alongside (size, demand and quality depending).

Prerequisites for having your note skin added:

    - Make it available under StepMania's license, or place it in the public domain. To do this, you must have created the entire skin yourself, or have permission from the author of any works it is based on. Do not download a third party note skin and modify it.

Either include the attached license text (with your name substituted at the top), or state that the note skin is in the public domain.
    - No joke skins. We don't mind if people create a skin of their head spinning around, but it doesn't need to be part of StepMania. Smile

    - Please try to include layered source graphics, such as PSDs, as it can be very difficult to maintain a flattened graphic.

Note skins for any game type are welcome.

The new default Dance note skin is inspired from one of the PyDance skins, but was created from scratch (by Glenn). It is in the public domain, and it may be used to create new note skins. The PSD source for this is in Assets, including the vector masks (as most people will probably want to fix the goofy shape).

This skin doesn't use separate graphics for each hold, and it's a beat-colored note skin with no option for non-beat, smooth coloring, but note skins can do everything they always have. Time permitting, We'll answer questions if people want to do these things.

To submit a note skin for consideration, mail [email protected] with a URL to a ZIP.
