All of a sudden today the dance pad stoped working after I played a song. I quit stepmania unplug the usb and plug it back in, restart stepmania and it works again. The very strange thing is that this repeated over and over. Sometimes I would get 2 or 3 songs in before it would quit. I believe that it would only "break" when I failed a song or quit early, however every time I failed it did not "break".
It seems to me that it would only crap-out after I had attempted particularly complicated batches of arrow patterns, but I have not verified this. I play heavy / advanced 9 foot songs and am trying to move up to 10 foot.
Ok I have an older model metal dance pad that I bought off ebay 3 years ago. It is that one that was popular with the leds in parallel lines on each arrow.
I use a EMS dual shooter box. Model grey with blue plugs.
I am running the latest version of stepmania 4 and have the latest drivers for the ems.
I have not changed any settings in stepmania or done anything different with my computer. I play 1 hour every other day.
I seem to remember having this problem occur some time ago in the long past but they were rare isolated occurances so I took no mind. (that was with a different computer and older drivers and stepmania).
