Creating Step files is a pain... Better way?

Hello, I just recently got into creating step files for my own songs. One thing I am being faced with is the annoyance of how long it takes to make a single 10 second section of a song to get it to match the beat correctly... I wanted to ask how other people make them?

Does everyone just slam keys and hope it matches the beat? Are there programs that make step files automatically based on the beat of the song? I would really like to make a few of my own songs to play, but its taking along time. I think I would be better off if I knew how other people did it so I know I'm not alone, or if there is a better way of going about doing this.

    -Miles

On a side note: I am using StepMania 3.9 but I don't think that matters.
Rule #1 : If it moves, Kill it!!
Rule #2 : If it doesnt move, shoot it till it does and see Rule #1

Unless it's a super-complicated song it shouldn't take you more then an hour.

I just finished a marathon length song in 2 hours, but it is my first sim.

            Did you change the BPM?

F7 makes the BPM go down.
F8 makes the BPM go up.

If it was easy everyone could do it. Don't look for a program, just try to get better at doing it yourself.

The thing to do is to make your first sims off of midis or anything else that's guaranteed to have a constant BPM. Then you only need to find the BPM once, which easy once you have the gap.

There are several topics on how to do this in the Simfile forum.

Dancing monkeys is a good concept but the stepcharts it makes just aren't any good. (And forget making it step Vunderbar.)

Not to mention that DancingMonkeys makes a random stepchart for the song, which can be off-sync, stupid, or just plain weird.

U could put a random note at the end of a song and go to the begininning and press ctrl r to do whatever step u input with the arrows. but first you need to highlight the whole song by pressing shift p then esc. This is not recommended by me but it makes making songs easier.

Lol I wonder what happens if you cover the speech bubble...-_-
