This only works with Win2K and later. (Must be using NTFS).
Anyone familiar with linux/etc will have heard of symlinks and hardlinks. NTFS supports these too, though not overtly. Using a similar feature of NTFS filesystems, called junction points, you can effectively have a Songs folder in DWI with the same contents as the Songs folder in StepMania, without having two copies of the file. Instructions:
-Download NTFS-Link from http://www.elsdoerfer.info/ntfslink/ . After you install, NTFS-Link wants to restart. Either do that or log out and log back in. Either way works fine.
-Put all the song files you want in the StepMania Songs folder. Delete or rename the DWI songs folder.
-Open up Explorer (double-click My Computer) and go to the DWI directory.
-Right click on empty space (I.E. Not on an icon) and select 'New>NTFS Junction Point'.
-A box will appear asking about the target directory. Highlight the stepmania songs directory and press ok.
Thats it.
Note: You should not delete junction points before unlinking them. If you want to get rid of the Songs directory in DWI, right click the Songs folder, and select 'NTFS Link>Unlink from...'. Then delete it. NTFS Link will watch out for this and automatically unlink the directories before it is deleted, but in general it's good practice not to delete junction points before unlinking them first.
