    Dilemma... video card trouble.

Ok, here's the deal. Whenever I start (or well, try to start) Stepmania CVS, my computer keeps saying that it can't start Direct3D or something because my video card is outdated.

Now I went shopping for a video card, and those are expensive. My question is: Until I get enough money for a decent video card, is there any way to play SM?

what's your video card now? What driver version do you use? What version of directX do you have?

ATI 3D Rage Pro (6 years old), 4.10.1720, and my card can only handle up to DirectX 7.0 (believe me, I tried to install 9.)

Maybe you should buy a new video card. They're not that expensive nowadays, ~150$ for a good one.

You can't even run DirectX higher than 7? Uh...you might need to get an new computer there.

You can pick up GeForce 4 MX cards pretty cheap, and it is a great card if you're low on cash. I replaced my Rage Fury last year with a GeForce 4 MX 440 and it was a cheap upgrade ($110 when the card was still rather new, about ~$60 now).

If you really aren't looking for performance you can find GeForce 2 MX cards for ~$40.

I found a nice deal on GF4 MX420, and you can find it here: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...%20W&CatId=318, only $45 ($25 after rebate).

I think you are going to wait until you get enough money, but in the mean time play FFR! or download DWI or something maybe that'll work

Congrats eldiablo, I can now see that you know nothing.

                        try this:

Right click on the .EXE file, and select Create Shortcut. A new file called "Shortcut to..." will appear in your folder. Right-click this file and go to Properties. You'll see one text box labelled Target: that points to the .EXE file. Go to the end of this text and add the command line arguments there. add /sdl.

                        It'll look like "C:\ProgramFiles\DWI\DWI2.exe /sdl"

Click "OK" and start the program using the Shortcut. You can rename the shortcut if you like.
