Stepmania is trying to access the internet!??

I've been using StepMania 3.9 alpha 24 without the multiplayer online metrics for about 3 months now.. I downloaded zone alarm's firewall about a month ago and played stepmania many times since then and never had this happen, but now everytime i open it it tries to access the internet.. I dont want to jump to conclusion but I have no idea why it would want to do this...

Hmm.. now my rc1 version is doing it too.. Has it always done this and I just havent noticed or something?

i have had zonealarm for a while now. It's just because its a new program and it doesn't recognize it. All its doing is saying that IF it needs to access the internet, ZA will allow it.

No thats not how a firewalls work. It says stepmania IS trying to access the internet. And, ofcourse, other programs that arnt trying to access the internet don't get this message.

I think I will allow it and log what it does with a sniffer when I get home.

Oh thanks Moogy, my problem is now solved. I never thought that deleting ZA will fix the problem. It was all zone alarms fault that stepmania was trying to get out and it is a uber piece of shit for doing exactly what I told it and detecting it. What was I thinking when I installed ZA??Im sure now that I deleted zone alarm stepmania will stop trying to get to the net, thus solving my problem.

Get Norton Systemworks '04. I have it and StepMania accesses the internet fine and I don't get a weird message either.

sm has an online gameplay module inside, when sonealarm checks and sees that he asks permission so that the program can in a future case acess the internet for online play. Stepmania is not going online and downloading pr0n for you.(period)
this question has been asked way too many times now

(btw: if you otice it is trying to acess your own computer because of the webserver code that is also inside sm)

people are definately ignoring the problem at end.. I don't know about zonealarm, but most firewalls you can make programs warned, which allows them to access the internet but traces what they do / where they go.. you sohuld try that
