When do you get an AA in SM5?

This was my first score on Game Time:

This score was obtained right after the previous one:

Score 2 is an AA and my personal record #2; score 1 is an A and personal record #1.
This doesn't really make sense to me, can someone explain it please?

AA = 93% dance points. It really doesn't have much to do with the score.

Dance points:

+2 Marv/Perf
+1 Great
+0 Good
-4 Bad
-8 Miss
+6 OK
+0 NG

For SM5, there are two types of % scoring iirc that can be applied

MIGS
DP

DP is what Guest stated, and was the main form of scoring% for awhile until SM5 was released and there was a second option called MIGS.

Someone with more SM knowledge should offer what they know, but looking at your scores, the AA happened because you achieved lower combobreakers (Bads, Goods, Misses attribute to that) even though your MA is lower and your Greats are higher, and that is why Score 1 is technically your PB.

Looking at this though your scoring % style is MIGS because AAs on DP are only achievable by getting 93.00% or higher.

Machine score does not dictate letter grade as Guest explained. The reason why the "higher" score can be worse percentage-wise is because machine score is weighted heavier as the song progresses. It's very flawed but it was DDR's way of taking stamina into account. If you were to play the first 98% of the song perfect and then miss the last 2% of notes, your machine score will be much lower than if you missed the first 2% of notes and played the last 98% perfectly.

Does anyone know how to get dance points on your result screen?
Knowing my dance points without calculating it by myself would be nice.

There should be an option somewhere, forget if it's in game options or machine options or somewhere else entirely.

It's in one of the settings when you boot up stepmania, iirc theme options contains the "scoring type" setting in which can be changed between MIGS/DP.

Whoops my bad, keep looking through the settings, you'll find it when you scour through other options.
