how do i fix stepmania lag

I have a toshiba laptop its a really good laptop too and its windows 7 here's what i have done to fix the lag so far

1. switched video drivers
2. WaveOut for sound drivers
3. clicked the last 3 boxes in the compatibility
4. i even lowered the resolution of stepmania itself

i dont know what else to do it plays 'spiky' and im getting random perfects and greats for no reason

Jokes aside, I've come across many problems with SM on multiple OS.
v-sync should always be off (unless it works for some reason idk), compatibility mode, task manager -> priority change, yada yada etc shit you've probably already done. My old PC still had lots of problems even though I did basically EVERYTHING I could find on the internet to help fix lag. Some PCs just hate Stepmania.

ok fuck i have literally done fucking everything possible i even downloaded a different stepmania build and did that shit all over again and it is still fucking skippy and i get random bullshit judgments when i play drums every day i still have fucking rhythm i shouldnt be getting greats on shit like ageha

guess it wasnt meant to be.....

im like really sad

is there a way to like find out if its the computer because i think the computer is fine every other fucking thing in existence runs just fine on it but nope not stepmania. ironically my old computer was plagued to death with viruses and fucked up shit but yea stepmania still ran ok -___________-

ive waited over a year to play this game i refuse to wait any longer seriously i havent been this pissed about anything in a while. in the end my theory is that the only people that have good ma play on computers that let them. because seriously getting marvelouses is incredibly easy ppls ma must be atocious because their computers suck for this game.

Maybe some other graphics settings are the problem such as texture resolution. Are you using 3.9 or 5?

Also if you never figured it out aero is that glassy overlay for windows explorer and taskbar. For whatever reason it has been known to cause issues with ffr. It is said to be trying to switch desktop rendering from the cpu to a gpu so I guess that is fucked up somewhere. You can turn it off by switching your theme to classic or basic.

The reason I suggest windows 8 is because they simply strip out aero entirely and get rid of all the unnecessary desktop animations. Perhaps they also fixed the desktop being rendered with a gpu. I have no idea, but sm runs great on my subpar win8 laptop that never could on win7.

i switched my theme to the classic one

i just got 20/4/1/1/0 on betrayal from odi 1 (yea 100 bpm 16ths) i dont care how long i havent played im not that bad

88/4/0/1/0 on casket of star....... quadded that with 90s ra on my other computer so...........................

i downloaded both 3.95 and 3.9 and they are both running like ass

I can tell when it gets just enough skippy to give me a perfect and i time better when i see a continuous chain of marevelouses (i do HORRIBLE on hidden) so it throws me off. sometimes it will stop playing completely and the notes will sit still for a second or two. Its also skipping in the menu when i scroll through songs. the music will stop playing and it will make an annoying glitching noise of all the buttons i mashed while it was frozen at once.

Could try dual booting a linux OS by installing it inside windows just to test if that gets it running well. If not then I'd have to say your laptop is just shit.

eh wow i guess i kinda give up then that really really sucks

i know for a fact its not me the last time i played stepmania prior to that i hadnt played at all in months and i got like 2 perfects on rose beginner so yea its definitely not me

is there a way to test if my computer is working properly? i dont know shit about computers its just a tool i use to play stepmania and go on facebook sometimes.

xiao has a toshiba laptop also and I could never figure out/fix his lag issue with stepmania.

it might just be the laptop build in general just judging from my experience of trying to troubleshoot.

- Verify that you have your most recent graphics drivers.
- Try setting processor priority to Above Normal.
- Try setting your processor affinity to something different.
- Change the display color of your images from 32-bit to 16-bit in SM's Graphic Options menu.
- Change the texture resolution from the default 1024 down to 512, or 256 in SM's Graphic Options menu.
- Turn off Keep Textures in Memory in SM's Graphic Options menu (note: this may make SM load a bit more slowly).
- Set your background brightness to 0% in SM's Backgrounds menu (note: it does make a difference compared to using the "Cover" mod since cover is essentially adding a black background layer on top of your background).
