I still disagree with everything the chancellors had stood for

I tend to stick with the structural measures that are in place as long as they're not too extreme. I don't have quite a clear idea of how the things are going on for the SM community. How it functions and how it's composed still confuses me today.
LC was still an open group though.

A certain group of person that releases packs every now and then isn't elitist as long as this group is open to let other people inside and that there are measures for rookie simartists to contributes to good quality packs in the community.

I agree with both of these viewpoints. I am rather proud of how the keyboard community has recovered from that age of our history--that said, I do think the Light Chancellors were a fun project to be a part of, provided everyone else got a chance to be a part of it as well.

I'll admit I may have been a bit of a snob back in the day (although I never used that to look down on anyone, more as a form of entitlement) but since then I've cone around to Gundam's point-of-view.

There's really a lot of interesting stuff about the sociological development of the Stepmania community. I'd love to write a book about it.

This entire community has changed as a whole though. I'm not sure if stepping became easier or not but most people seem to be decent or good at it within the first few files

I think it's a combination of people being more knowledgable and having far more members willing to help. More than that, I think the community has just become much more positive with time. Everybody gets along quite well these days.

I think this is an incredibly underrated age for Stepmania: maybe not as active as the SMGroove days, but just as engaging and bustling. I'd love to see some of the veterans come back here: I wonder what they'd say.

Also, I'm incredibly grateful to Dj_Ossa for being such a cool guy back when I was in my Xoon 3 phase. It was incredibly powerful to hear somebody who had been around as long as he had compliment and encourage me, and you'd better believe it played a part in me becoming as active a part of the stepping community as I am today.

So if he's reading this, by some odd stroke of luck, you are awesome, good sir.

if anything i think the stepmania community seriously dwindled down after like.. 2010, and especially now because SMO is down at the moment with no word on its return (the forums are down as well)

FFR's been pretty bad too - we have less than 400 users on at a time when we used to have well over 800 on at a time

it doesn't help that ODI/KBO/redfraction haven't been doing too well either (ODI is dead iirc, redfraction only a few posts here and there, KBO iono)

sm needs revival

Maybe I phrased that poorly--sure, the community right now's small, but it's more friendly and active than it's been in a while. Small=/bad...

That said, a revival may be in order. But the community always cycles. Who knows?

yeah my bad on my wording as well

the small community is doing pretty well, and we've seen a huge increase in the number of potential step artists, and we still have very strong community packs going (off the top of my head, otaku's dream, seasonal ffrcps, ffr batches, mad pack, solo rulz, ffrpartyy, etc etc and more more)

but at this rate i havent seen an increase in the actual amount of players
i feel like in 10 years... when we are all old (25~35, etc etc) i don't think there will be a generation after us to keep up stepmania/stepping/playing going..

we gotta raise the new generation!!!
kids these days have never heard of stepmania, they only play guitar hero/rock band
actually no, they play COD and shit

Very sad and very true. I've actually been playing around school more these days so I cantet some more of my friends into the game.

But unless we pass this stuff on to the next generation--our 10+ year history, tens upon thousands of files, packs, members, forums...

They'll be gone.

And that'll be a sad day.
