Do a bunch of knee drops and spins. That is the one thing that makes DDR go from looking really cool to everyone that watches to looking insanely cool to everyone so much so that they'll say things like "wow, you look like an idiot" just out of spite. (not at all because you actually look like an idiot)

            knee drops
            spins
get off the machine and get back on by jumping the bar

most important in freestyling in a contest or for that matter anywhere dont just use the feet. while playing judges and other onlookers dont just see your bottom half. do something with your hands and upper body. rave with your hands or pop and lock or liquid. but do something so your whole body is moving... and with rhythm. even sing the song if it has words. judges and onlookers like to watch someone have fun and really get into it.

yes I have to agree with the knee drops and the spins... another suggestion is when there are breaks, climb up on the side of the machine then jump down onto the appropriate arrows on time (knows a friend who does this and it just adds to all of the moves you are doing)

I wish the whistle song was at the arcades, I can do like 8453853272947325 spins in it on standard. even though i play heavy.

Use your hands and feet when you play. Also try to break dance on the pad

Pick a few songs and memorize them, then you don't have to worry about looking while your freestyling. I thought of a new move that I haven't tried yet but might be cool, lean your feet up against the top of the bar and use your hands to do an easy part of the song, then find a way to get back to the normal position

memorize an easy song, play it on versus - hands on one pad and feet on the other =P
