I'm not saying that NOBODY can do it. But, the vast majority of DDR/ITG players have a hard time doing well on 10+ level songs without the bar (much less passing 11+).

Bars make it easier to keep your balance. That's why it's a little harder to play on the home pad. Speed mods make it easier to read the arrows, and it looks cool to anyone else who doesn't play DDR.

The whole speedmods/bar issue is why DDR is gay.

I think that both can be used effectively, and it's the users discresion whether to play with them or not. Yes, your ability does show what mods you use... But I can AAA Cant stop fallin in love (speedy) without any modifiers, but I prefer using 2x because I think it makes it more challenging. This is why DDR should be wholesome again. People complain way too much. Get on the pad, play, and get the hell off. End of story.

So what your implying is that the bar is just a crutch for the lesser talented players?

In response to the original question: I do not use the bar and I play the song as is. I'm not the greatest but I can get an A on max 300 (heavy) n' such. Don't tell me that I coudln't hold my own in ITG2 w/o the bar because I know that I still struggle with these songs, but that doesn't mean that i'm not working hard on accomplishing this without a bar. I might not be able to do the harder ITGs yet but if I can someday it will most definately be more impressive than someone holding the bar.

I've never seen anyone use speed mods or the bar....does that mean everyone here is good? i've never seen ITG or ITG2 so i've never heard of blood rush but i'll look for it on Bemani Style. I saw some guy FC Max 300 though is he legit?

Its not cheating. Its just a tool placed there so lesser players may feel that they are as good as the more advanced players. Hence farming quarters from those who can balance their own weight and those who cannot handle the stress of their entire body moving.

I weigh about 150-155 pounds. I'm six feet, two inches tall. It's incredibly hard to hold myself upright in balance due to the whole "beanstalk" kind of effect. I have no problem throwing myself away from the bar on most things, right up to Pandemonium Hard Doubles. I can FC that without a bar because there are no awkward body motions. Problems arise on things like VerTex^2, with awkward patterns and things of that nature. I have to throw my weight around a lot -- which is mostly in my legs, which is actually more than half of my full height. Something I can't help and, quite frankly, something that would take a long time to correct.

And nforcer, the reason you don't see anyone play PSMO without the bar near us is because you can't play on the inner sensors since they all suck around here. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for me by this point if I were playing on decent pads.

Both speed mods and bar, I have a theory. How about you start off using them one way and progress towards whatever you think is your personal best. Quit trying to compare yourself to other players. Play the game because you enjoy it and because you want to challenge yourself, not because you want to be better than other people.
