My birthday's in november and I'm probably gonna get IIDX and a controller (obviously) and I have a few questions.

1. I have an american ps2 and I don't wanna mod it, so where would I get a swap disc and stuff? It's a mini ps2 also, so would that change anything?
2. I'm decent on L7 right now, so is there a certain style that would help me get better or is it just preference? If it is, which style should I get?

I'd appreciate any other help/tips/information/links/etc.

1. You need to use a swap disc in conjunction with some other mod. There is no way to play Japanese games on an American PS2 without a fliptop, mod chip, or slide card; the fliptop and slidecard also require SwapMagic. The advantage to this is that you may also play burned games with your newly modded PS2 and SwapMagic. In case you're wondering, the reason you need to use some sort of mod for SwapMagic is so that you can replace the disc without actually opening the disc tray and activating the regiony sensor type things.

If you're using a mod chip, all you need to do is solder it in and play games. Nothing else required.

However, if you're uncomfortable with soldering (and I'm sure most people are), go for a fliptop. They are very easy to install and look cool to boot. They do, however, require SwapMagic, which is an extra 20$.

Don't use slidecards. They will destroy your PS2.

I have had very good experiences with the latter site. All of the items I ordered came within a week from Hong Kong. Very good shipping.

Also: No, having a slimline/v12/PSTwo (whatever you want to call it) will not make a difference. They make fliptops and modchips for it, as well. They tend to be a bit harder to install, however.

In summer 2006. 10th CS comes out November 17th. I have it preordered. It's still 8-9 months before Beatmania USA comes out.
