I love the flux, haven't tried the afterburner, but I hear it's a good value. Unless you want to play pump.

From what I've heard, Afterburner's are very nice.
I've played on a CF, and I've found it the best.
I also think that if you're going to spend that kind of money on a metal pad, you may as well go all out. You can also get the arcade-style mod for the CF, which is a big plus in my book.
CF's aren't the greatest for Pump since the arrows aren't the right size though, and the control boxes do not work on PS2 versions of PIU.

make sure you get yourself an adapter too, if you're going to use it for pc.

The afterburner is an amazing pad that feels just like the arcade. I have had a shot to play on one of those beauties, and I may say, it is amazing.

I would definantly buy this over any other pad.

Just a downside to the reason you are buying it, playing with a pad on Stepmania will infact get a bit boring after a while. I would buy a game and then get the pad.

Also get an updated adaptor and a control box if it doesnt come with one. You need an adaptor in order to play the game on the computer and the control box is with the start and select buttons.

What difference does it make whether I play on PC vs. an Xbox or something?
oh, and do I NEED a control box, or can I just use my keyboard?
            thx

The control box usually connects the pad to the ps2/x-box. It's essential if the pad itself does not have the right hookup for X-Box/Ps2.

RE: Which metal pad is better?

alright thanks... but i don't have xbox or ps2 that is why i asked...
the afterburner comes with a usb plug so it goes right into the computer...
i don't suppose i'd need a control box then right?

Correct. All you need now is a drive to plug it in to.

BUILD ONE, you wont regret it...read some of the posts in this forum http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=59254 seriously, these will last longer than the afterburner (I've heard so many complaints) and they feel a lot like the arcade pads...you can even build them with lights if you want. but...if you're lazy or mechanically incompetent, go for a cf...it's the only metal pad really worth spending the money on unless you only plan on playing for a few months.
