It won't help with physical capability/stamina, but when you are able to read faster, you'll have a little extra time to decide how to move your body. That helps, too.
I noticed I couldnt hit most crossovers because I wasnt ready for them. When I got heavy into FFR (waiting for a rank update, hoping to be under 500) and then played DDR again, I noticed I hit most of the crosses, if not all. No, I'm not terrible at the game, I'm actually pretty good, I wasnt terrible before ffr either, FFR just helped quite a bit (but with reading only)
This type of thread has been made several times. There's a search button you know. Overall, most people say that it improves your timing, step recognition, and paterns of certain songs.
personally, i used to not be able to pass maxx unlimited (i know, how noobish..so sue me) because the arrows were too fast for my miniscule brain to read in time. so..blah..my ddr pads broke and i resorted to playing ffr until i had the time to buy new pads. ffr was a lot bigger challenge and when i eventually returned to ddr, everything was quite simple. =]
