DDR PS used Pad

I tried to get a used pad today... didn't work. So i took it back, the guy told me it must have been a playstation one pad, and that's why it didn't work.

Is he right? any ideas?

I thought Any ps controller would work on any type of playstaion I think the pad was just broken

Ya it is just broken because the regular ps one controller work on my PS2 so it is just the pad being broken
