also mirror is no longer mirror and the screen is 50% smaller.
I don't recall Mirror being removed.

PIU Pro FX cabinets were produced with 42" monitors and were the same size or larger than their Korean predecessors (NX2/NXA had FX cabinet options, but NX did not and only carried a 34" monitor). NX cabinets were released prior to the FX models, so any machines with larger monitors must have had their marquees/hard drives changed out. Pump it Up Pro was the first game to use FX cabinets, which have the 42" screens -- the screens normally aren't smaller. The machines released 2011 or later (CX/TX series) have 42"/54" screens. PIU Pro was never released with a smaller CRT monitor, so if you're seeing a smaller monitor for Pro, or a larger monitor for an older game, something was changed.

As far as the PIU Pro series being abominable, that's a highly opinionated statement and both sides can argue valid points. For example: PIU Pro added a new perspective of charting by adding mines, and PIU Pro 2 added Routine Mode/Gauntlet mode, which were a bit different/new to the PIU series as a whole -- on the other hand, the "official" series brought tougher charts and more of a quest-like mode with WorldMAX, but those who have helped to complete it know how over-bearing/ridiculous it is.

I'm assessing games as a whole, but I like to nitpick at particular subjects.

EDIT: Oh, it seems like the older games do have alternative cabinet choices now -- I'm seeing some NX cabinets with the FX designs. They kept manufacturing the older games with the newer cabinet designs. I've still yet to see a TX cabinet, though.

My PIU pro 2 I play clearly has a smaller screen too actually. I have to tone down my speedmod considerably for it, it doesn't bother me too much because the size of the screen feels more like ITG but just throwing it out there

Also about the main problem, wasn't fiesta coming out at the same time as PIU pro? So couldn't you choose to do one if you didn't like the other?

I guess that's coming from someone who lives in a place with easy access to both though.

        Re: PIU communities

Fiesta came out in spring of 2010, but Pro 2 came out in summer of 2010.

Is it possible that you guys had been seeing Fiesta/Fiesta EX cabinets? They might be outfitted with the larger screens.

        EDIT: see above post Edit

Well actually I'm referring to pro 2 being smaller than fiesta ex/fiesta 2 is, because those were the other PIU's I played regularly. So I had to move my speedmod down from fiesta EX/2 to piu pro 2.

I kinda didn't play any of the older fiesta games regularly so I don't know about their screen size, though we do have a piu fiesta and the cabinet for that is about the same size as pro 2 I think.

            Re: PIU communities

mirror wasn't removed; it was changed. it flips vertically instead of actually mirroring the steps.

what's goin' on cz on piu pro and piu nx on mirror are completely different for some reason

also when I said larger screens, I meant the reading space was smaller. same argument between sm 3.9 and sm5; sm5 has a MUCH larger reading space on screen. try reading 170 bpm songs on 4x on piu pro. on nx? totally doable.

I'm sure piu pro has lots of better features. but in terms of gameplay, not so much.

I could get into the whole timing argument, but having played both itg and piu I rather their timing be kept the same for both games. putting itg timing on piu is a bad idea for the following reasons:

            1. piu is naturally more difficult with foot placement, crossovers, challenges in general. The lenient timing helps the learning curve for this game significantly.

            2. Lenient timing helps play harder songs and still gives you a sense of accomplishment. You can take on harder songs you can't quite do yet and practice them without dying because you're getting too many goods. (though this could apply to itg as well I guess)

            3. This only applies to stage break, but most piu machines i've played on didn't have stage break and this is awesome because I can play 3 songs + one bonus even if I get 40 misses and A on a song. I can really push and play hard dumps on pump and not worry about wasting my round so much.

OH. Yeah, yeah, that was something that irritated me too. You have to use a considerably lower speedmod on PIU Pro than you did on the NX-series games, yeah. I'll acknowledge that as a flaw because it is somewhat annoying to deal with the transfers. I'm capable of reading really slow, so it doesn't bother me very much, but the math does get annoying.

I could get into the whole timing argument, but having played both itg and piu I rather their timing be kept the same for both games. putting itg timing on piu is a bad idea for the following reasons:
While ITG and PIU Pro have similar timing windows, the scoring metrics are a bit different, because there are four judgments that allow you to maintain a combo (as opposed to three semi-tight ones on ITG and three somewhat looser ones on the other PIU games). It's easier to get somewhat higher scores on harder songs once you get used to the game, haha.

              1. piu is naturally more difficult with foot placement, crossovers, challenges in general. The lenient timing helps the learning curve for this game significantly.

I can agree with this, yeah. One of the things I enjoyed about the PIU series is that I was able to pick up on how to survive barrages of crossovers/streams/etc without suffering the worst lifebar loss in the world, haha. PIU does have a steep learning curve, for sure. PIU Pro somewhat lowers the curve by having four difficulties on one pad for nearly every song, and has a bit more of an accessibility for all of the songs, while other songs are a bit over-exaggerated in difficulty... although, this is alleviated somewhat in newer PIU releases (Sorceress Elise: 4/6/8/10/15/18/21/23 for one pad alone!).

              3. Ah, I didn't have that luxury. The only way for me to play Stage Break off was to play on WinDEU's machine, and that was quite a bit later after I started learning. Back when I was learning to play PIU at an arcade named Dennis', I had to start playing the game failing time and time again. It was funny though, because my ITG experience carried me from failing Chimera Normal (4 on NX), to passing Bullfighter's Song Crazy (18 in NX?) in the same day. The locals there didn't even know what to think -- some of them had been playing regularly and I exceeded their skill within a day, haha.

itg skill transitions really well to pump. once you get positioning down it's super fun.

heck i'm still learning certain crossovers on pump and i've been playing for 5 years lmao

Eh, I don't know how much I agree with that. Maybe its just because I am LOLTERRIBAD at crossovers, but I have never really been able to make the transition to PIU myself.

Play songs that have little to no crosses (very few of them exist) and you'll get better quicker. Like Halogen said, once you get the foot placement down it becomes funner. Then you can start trying other songs that produce ridiculous patterns. Also smarter to play easier difficulties (even if you can do 14's on ITG) and songs that have a lot of crosses at slow speeds.

                    Timing is a joke.
