This is basically a game where players devise rules that are to be followed for the duration of the game. Here is how the game works:
- Someone [me] will post the first rule,
- After that, the next person must create a rule that obeys the previous rule and also obeys itself.
- Keep repeating step two.
---------------------
I'll give some examples so you guys aren't lost. So lets say the first rule is:
1. All rules must have a five letter word.
That rule is fine since it obeys itself (it has a five letter word).
---------------------
Here is an example of good rule number two:
2. All rules must be longer than nine words that are longer than one letter long.
This rule is fine since it obeys itself (it has more than 9 one-letter words) and it obeys all rules before it (it has a five letter word.)
---------------------
Here is an example of a rule #2 that would not work:
2. Rules cannot contain the letter "X."
This rule doesn't work because it doesn't obey itself. The rule itself contains the letter "X."
---------------------
Here is another example of a rule that won't work:
2. Sentence must have a word.
Since it doesn't follow rule number 1 (must have a five letter word), this rule does not work.
---------------------
Here is the list of THE rules for the game. These rules support the backbone of the rules game and are not part of rules that are created during gameplay.
- All rules must follow all the rules before it.
- All rules must obey themselves.
- Rules cannot be made that would make it impossible for someone to create a rule. For example, the rule "You cannot use the first [rule number] letters in the alphabet. At rule number 26, there would be no letters for which someone can construct a rule.
- Rules cannot be ambiguous or opinion based. For example, the rule, "Your rule must be awesome!" is opinion based, so it wouldn't work. Be careful of rules concerning rhymes. Define the definition of a rhyme in your rule. Are slant rhymes ok? Do all syllables need to rhyme or only the last? Address questions like these in your rule.
- Unless there is a rule preventing you from doing so, proper grammar and spelling are mandatory.
- This game will be point-based. Whatever the rule number is, that is how many points you will get. If you provide a "bad" rule, the (rule number * 2) will be deducted from your score.
- The rules in this list are permanent. Rules cannot be created that alter or disobey these rules.
- One rule per post.
- No double posting.
- Since scores are being taken, you may post more than once per page.
-----------------
So here is the first rule:
1. All rules must have a five letter word.
[I will keep track of scores and list of rules in this original post as often as I can. If a mod or admin would like to re-update the scores while I'm away, they are free to do so. If you feel like someone's rule was a bad rule, you can post saying so or just PM me. If you have any questions or have suggestions as to the framework of the game (such as the permanent rules) just PM me.]
