not yet, we literally spent the 5 hours figuring out how to do a battle
we were also using 4e, which is apparantly really battle intensive; my roommate is getting the 5e handbook (i already torrented it), and we're probably going to look through that, since the monster manual comes out later this month, and 5e is supposed to be the most stable/well done version or whatever
Was reading over comics online and it reminded me of this thread. Might give the core rulebook & dm rulebook a read through, they are hella long.
For anyone interested in a DM position, the books to read are fourth edition Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual. They are all individual books, and each of them is around 200-400 pages long. It's definitely not an easy task to train yourself for a position to be a DM, and it's recommended that the person plays a couple of games with an official dungeon master before attempting to try and become one themselves. It also recommends that notes are taken frequently when reading the book, so if anything it's cram study rather than knowing.
No wonder you guys are having such trouble trying to find a proper dungeon master to host your expeditions, this website usually caters around people 10-25 years old, and the game came out back in the 1970's.
edit:
why has drizzleromancegirl not volunteered for dm this sounds like it's right up her alley.
I say that DarkManticore be dungeon master and we all play with him so that we all get an idea on how to play this game and just yolo it, because its literally been months before any real progress had been set on making this happen.
Read through a couple of pages of all the books and according to me its everyone's job to make the game work. It's a goddamn rpg that you make up as you play it I don't see why you have to pour your soul over 300 pages of how to better construct your imagination. We pick a class, dip a bit of back-story info about them, plop them into a town and let's go.
We only probably need some help regarding how attacking/fighting works in D&D, as well as values for D&D. Most rest of D&D is social aspect, opinion, and thought. We'll learn it as we play <3
either do that or we wait for 5e to come out and then hopefully YoshL pouring soul into reading this type of stuff won't be all for nothing.
knowing how combat & ability checks work is good enough for me
we can debate class, race, culture, skills, and magic when we're at the table, and get opinions & votes for stuff.
The game doesn't have to revolve around just the DM to make decisions over stuff either, in the 4e DM book I was reading, basic stuff to the story can also be contributed to the imaginative world just by offering some character backstory or character development. doesn't mean you should try to steal the spotlight doing so though.

+1
And who cares if we break a few rules at the start we are learning
you're what the D&D Dungeon Master's Guide Book refers to as an instigator.
Likes to make things happen.
Takes crazy risks and makes deliberately bad choices.
Thrives in combat and dislikes having nothing to do.
Takes decisive action when things grind to a halt.
ENGAGE THE INSTIGATOR BY . . .
Including objects and encounters that invite experimentation.
Letting her actions put the characters in a tight spot but not kill them all.
Including encounters with nonplayer characters who are as feisty as she/he is.
I guess the only thing we'd need is maybe a date to settle on and see if we can maybe work out a first adventure/campaign/whatever and try and learn the basics together. From there, it's just a matter of people sitting in on other's games, and learning while they play.
I don't have a monster manual or a DMG. I have run one campaign before, but I had a lot of help from a freind with a lot of experience, and it died after like 3 months.
Willing to try, but I've only really suceeded at being a player.
Also I would be using 3.5, because It's the only DnD version I have exp with
awesome. let's get a time up for this. I would send out pms and maybe a doodle ( www.doodle.com ) for scheduling, but i'm about to go to class for like, pretty much the rest of tonight and i'll be dead
i can do fridays though, like all day on friday and all night usually
